Experiences with discourse management today have led me to think more deeply about planning for discourse and preparing students to confidently participate.

I feel inspired to be creative about the tasks that I'm presenting to students and seek out opportunities for them to engage with one another in different structures of conversations.

Then transition to more academic discourse throughout the year more seamlessly than starting them immediately with academic discourse. This is a strategy I will try out next school year.

Both of the strategies modeled today I can take directly back into my classroom. I love how both promote equity of voic, advocacy for learning, and ownership of ideas. These will show students that their voices and opinions matter and so do those of their peers. These will work seamlessly in my AP Seminar classroom where students are constantly grappling with differing perspectives in conflict with one another. The pinwheel discussion will make those complicated discussions visible.
