Have the students prepare food, games, and activities that correlate with their cultural identity. This could look like using their cultural storytelling in writing assignments.</p><p><br></p><p>When students see their cultures represented, they feel valued and are more engaged.</p></blockquote><p><br></p></li><li><p>Use Culture Based Examples: Incorporate music, food, or even traditions into lessons.</p><blockquote><p>example: Explore volume in <strong>math</strong> by measuring ingredients from traditional recipes, or teach patterns and counting using dance steps or textile designs from various cultures.</p><p><br></p><p>Tapping into students’ cultural backgrounds makes learning more meaningful and supports deeper understanding by connecting new concepts to what students already know.</p></blockquote><p><br></p></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: Create a classroom that is inclusive, safe and affirming.</p><p><br></p><ol><li><p>Provide Visual Representation of Student Cultures: This helps students visually see where each student's family originates from, opens up their eyes to more than just America!</p><blockquote><p>example: Have a map hanging in the classroom, and get tacks to mark down where each student's culture is from. This is a fun way to incorporate a visual!</p></blockquote></li></ol><p><br></p><ol start="2"><li><p>Change It Up! Greet and leave students in different languages! Have them learn too!</p><blockquote><p>example: as each student comes in, choose a language to incorporate that week!          <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: Build and strengthen relationships within the community, especially with the student's families.</p><p><br></p><ol><li><p>Culture Fest: Same as the fest in the first category. This will help the community come together to learn more about each other.</p><blockquote><p>example: have a fest, bring culturally related food, music, games, activities, etc.</p></blockquote></li></ol><p><br></p><ol start="2"><li><p>Invite families to come share their story in the classroom. </p><blockquote><p>example: have a sign up sheet in the beginning of the semester/ year and have families sign up to come share their culture with the classroom! Have them plan fun activities and have them take over the classroom!</p></blockquote></li></ol><p><br></p>]]></description>
