"Methods for rapid diagnosis of meningitis etiology in adults" Studies have shown that diagnosis postponement can contribute to mortality rates in meningitis patients. The cerebrospinal fluid samples typically taken as a means of diagnosis can take long durations of time, so new forms of diagnosing patients such as cryptococcal lateral flow assay have emerged in order to more quickly diagnose patients and reduce time-related complications.
