         <description><![CDATA[<div>This article explores the re-introduction of modern fashion trends, coming from pre-occupied France into Australia. The website highlights the difficulties of rationing women faced in attempting to keep their femininity while labouring as war-workers at the time, such as rationed fashion magazines, cosmetics, accessories and women's workforce and leisurely attire. Dior's debut in Sydney with its 'New Look', became the newest trend (if you could afford it) in post-war living. This was due to the fact that it was a revolutionary concept in Australia's post-war society. The 'New Look' ended up moving Australian women on from the efficient yet boring clothes of wartime to Europe's good, fun and fresh  modern-day fashion. This website is very useful because it deeply explores just how much new-age fashion trends mattered to Australian women post-war, and how they changed the society as a whole.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This websites delves into which fashion accessories became exceedingly popular in the 1950's and also how American influencers overtook British ones. The pillbox hat became a 'must-have' in post-war society. The hats were sometimes embroidered with flowers, or a lace overhang at the front. The fashion brand Balenciaga was the first to popularise the pillbox hat. Gloves in the 1950's were important as leaving the house with house keys. The gloves a woman wore depended on where she was going and how fancy it was; if it was a casual outing, clean white or cream gloves made of affordable cotton would suffice. If it was a special dinner or celebration, a woman (if she had any) would wear the more expensive and flashy leather gloves. The newest shoe trend of the decade was the stilleto heel, which then morphed in a pointed toe called a Winkle Picker in the mid 1950s. The stiletto heel was first popularised by a Dior fashion show in 1952 and quickly spread around Australia. By the end of the 1950's, five inch stiletto heels were a common sight. This website explains three of the most common and must-have accessories of the 1950s for women.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This article explores just how much America and its trends influenced people around the world. As movies started to be distributed worldwide, what the actors wore and how they presented themselves also started to catch the eyes of people everywhere. Big American names such as Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe especially influenced the younger generations. This also came into ties with the new concept of consumerism, where, because of a booming economy, people had more money which they could spend on things other than the bare minimum. This led to youth and adults alike spending their money so that they could copy the styles of various well-known Hollywood names.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This website gives another point of view from women of post-war fashion, especially concerning Christian Dior's 'New Look'. Many women had just been empowered by their new role in the workforce and society in general during wartime. When men started coming home however, women were forced back into the homes to be housewives, mothers and happy homemakers. Dior's 'New Look' only worsened the situation; the hourglass figure came into trend, which led to bone corsets, hip pads and lots of voluminous fabric. The dresses required lots of maintenance. Because the men were back and women had to constantly please them, pressure was put on them to look beautiful and dressed up outside and inside the home. This meant women were pressured to go full out with accessories even when they were inside their own home. Many women were absolutely appalled by these new trends sprouting from Europe, but had no other choice but to comply.</div>]]></description>
