When a user tries meth, the first symptoms that kick in are an increased heart rate, vastly increased metabolism, and heightened blood pressure. This is called the "rush" and is the first stage which lasts approx. 30 minutes. The next is high where a user feels "smarter" and becomes argumentative. Also the user during this phase has sharp focus on seemingly irrelevant objects and tasks. Like knocking on a table for hours, this can last four to sixteen hours. Third stage is the "binge" phase where the user takes more and more drugs compulsively to keep the high sustained. This lasts 3 to 15 days, and the user experiences hyperactivity both mentally and physically. Eventually it becomes impossible for the user to get another high until the meth is completely out of their system. This begins the tweaking phase, when no longer able to get high the user goes into an irrational hallucinated state. Often attacking others or themselves, they see and hear things no one else can and often feel bugs crawling under their skin. They forget who they are and cannot sleep for days at a time and the user loses all sense of reality. Then after the hallucinations stop the crash begins, where the body cannot deal with the drug and the person collapses and becomes lifeless for one to three days. After they wake up they are starving, dehydrated and exhausted, this is the meth hangover. All the drug is gone from the user, the only thing that can make the painful feelings of exhaustion is more meth, this lasts 14 days if meth is not taken.

Drug-Free World. “The Deadly Effects of Meth.” Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Foundation for a Drug-Free World, 2018, www.drugfreeworld.org/drugfacts/crystalmeth/the-deadly-effects-of-meth.html.
