Almost half of school aged children in Africa do not go to school. A lot of parents can't afford to send their kids to school. Some kids don't go to school because they have to work to help their family. Many children have to stay home so they can go collect drinking water. Most drinking water is dirty and gets people sick, which decreases attendance. Some of the kids who do go to school drop out because they aren't learning enough. A lot of students have to retake grades multiple times because they can't pass the standard test. Most teachers are inexperienced and don't teach very well. Plus, many students have to drop out due to poor health. Also, a lot of the money set aside for education might not be used for that purpose. Some leaders are corrupted and use the money for their own benefit.

A lot of teachers in Africa don't get paid enough. Some only get paid $2-$4 per day, and usually do not eat properly before coming to school. In Kenya, teachers went on a strike to demand higher pay. This hurt a lot of students education because they had to study by themselves. The students were not learning because the teachers were gone. Eventually, the teachers had to call off the strike. There is also a big shortage for qualified teachers in Africa. Most of them don't have the proper skills they need. Many schools have resorted to hiring unqualified teachers. A lot of teachers from other countries visit Africa to teach. However, there is still a huge need for teachers.

Children in Africa usually go to school from age 7 to 18, however, they are only required to go to school until age 15. Standards in each school depends on the amount of funding. In most schools, there is very little funding so the standards are very low. A lot of schools can't afford proper equipment. Many students don't have desks, and have to sit on the floor. Some students can't even afford pencils. Some kids have to learn outside in harsh weather. Many schools also lack clean water. Children suffer from stomach pains and illness because they can't get clean water to drink. This may affect their test scores and get in the way of their ability to learn.

Education in Africa has always been a huge problem. Around half of school aged children in Africa do not go to school. There aren't many schools in Africa that have enough funding to properly teach children. Since most children do not get an education, they have a hard time finding a good job. Africa's future is dependent on it's youth. Leaders in Africa won't be as good in the future because they aren't properly educated. If all children in Africa have a chance to go to school, Africa's future will be much better.

A lot is being done currently to help improve education in Africa. There are many different organizations that are donating computers to schools in Africa. Some of these computers have learning programs on them. These greatly help kids to learn more efficiently. There are also many organizations that raise money to help build new schools. People volunteer to visit Africa to help build schools. People also donate money to get new school supplies. There are even teachers that travel to Africa to volunteer at schools. Some organizations are even helping to dig wells at schools so that the students can get clean water. Also, many laws have been put in place to help protect education, however, many of them are not being followed.

There are many negative effects caused by poor education. If children aren't educated, they won't be able to get good jobs in the future. They might barely make enough money to feed themselves. They also won't be able to afford nice houses. Most of Africa's poverty is caused by poor education. If everyone was educated, poverty rates would go down. Lack of education also affects peoples health. If people aren't educated on proper hygiene, they can get sick. Africans will also be able to come up with new ways to get clean water.

A lot of students in Africa don't have the supplies they need to learn. I think we could help change this by having people donate school supplies. It would help a lot if schools in America started collecting school supplies for students in Africa. If the African students got new supplies, they will be able to learn better. They might also be more exited for school if they had new supplies. Another way to help is to make more people aware of the drinking water situation in Africa. If more organizations start supplying schools with clean water, students will be able to better focus on learning. Attendance rates will also go up because they won't be drinking contaminated water and getting sick.
