When you use a study in most cases you should not just be saying "Smith et al. (2017) reported that CBT was more effective than no treatment for..." but detailing a little about their study. Therefore you are likely to be saying "A meta-analysis analysis that included 33 studies looking at CBT applied to a range of disorders reported that....However, the inclusion criteria for this analysis....."
