Sam's view of power changed throughout multiple circumstances, and the position he was in. Other characters have developed also; Quinn was Sam's friend, worked with Caine, and came back to Sam again. There were multiple subplots of Sam and his friends, a girl named Lana, and Caine and his friends. They all were in separate places, the author jumping back and forth between stories. The fact that they conjoin together for the bigger picture is phenomenal and makes the story even more appealing to the young adults that are reading this book. The enlightenment makes scenes better and clearer to understand with the main characters and also gets you emotionally attached.
