The Four C's

One thing our District is doing to challenge the traditional paradigm of the Industrialized Era Education System is to embed the key ideas for the Four C's (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity). Embedding the the four Cs into daily lessons allows students experience what they will eventually encounter in their adults lives. Though this focus students are allow to seek multiple ideas, work with others to agree upon a solution, communicate effectively their thinking, and if not successful the first time then go back again and seek out other solutions. This kind of teaching allows students be be involve and be active through out the learning process.
Jesse Chavarria

One thing Anaheim Elementary School District is doing to challenge the traditional paradigm of the Industrialized Era Education System is the encourage a Growth Mindset. As Sir Ken Robinson points out, the educational system needs to focus on the potential of all students. No longer can we afford to believe that success can only be achieved by students who are book smart and get the highest grades. With a Growth Mindset we teach students that hard work and dedication will take you far. A Growth Mindset creates motivation and productivity. This mindset allows students to be actie participants in learning
Trisha Graper

Sir Robinson discusses that the best learning occurs through collaboration. One way AESD works toward challenging the existing paradigm is to promote the idea of collaborative conversations throughout the instructional day. Engaging our students to be active participants and co-construct their learning and understanding of the world with peers is essential for deep learning

We have formally trained three schools adding two more in 16-17. I feel that done correctly PBL will allow our students to fully engage in the educational process. If educators allow the process to develop, then we will sustain the divergent thinkers that walk into PK/TK/Kinder. It allows the students to be active, not passive learners. I have the opportunity to see the district from a global perspective, seeing all schools and classrooms. I have seen the transformation of a school implementing PBL practices and it is amazing to see the students take ownership of their learning, challenging each other through collaboration and problem solving. Mary O'Neill Grace.
