ASL and Piano

My favorite classes are tied between taking American Sign Language and Piano classes. I like these classes because I get to see the fruit of how much I have learned over the last year or years. Both of these classes take repetitive work at a simple pace, which allows me to effectively understand the topic and get the task done. Also, I achieve this by being patient with myself when learning a new commutative technique in ASL or when I am learning a new song. It also helps when I keep my focus on one class at a time. So, when I have these classes, though they are not seemingly as important as Ap Biology, they are still important to me and give me more happiness in my day, so I allow myself to focus and enjoy these classes.

Ap Biology is not the easiest class I have taken. I like learning about science and making connections about the world around us, but this class can be overwhelming. The only way I can think of to help myself is to give myself more time to understand the topics we learn. I can give at least 30 minutes every school night to AP Biology specifically so that I have more times to understand the material. I can also use more resources to help me have a more well rounded understanding for topics.

College Preparation

I cannot complain about how far I have come throughout my high school career, and a lot of that has to do with the teacher's help. However, when it comes to understanding the reality of college, I feel like circumstances could have been different, from my perspective. I didn't truly understand the impact of finances and the investment it would be to go to college, but we don't hear about most scholarships until senior year. I think this is problematic and a bit ironic how we have heard about college all four years of high school, whether that is to take the right courses for college, making good grades for college, and do the extracurriculars that will look good on a college resume, but the college process is still stressful at times for many students. So, here is what I think could help the younger student body.
1. Stop making college seem like it is always the only option to be successful (I think the counselors have done a decent job with this one in most cases).
2. Expose students to more scholarships earlier. Help students strive to not be fully loan dependent. Help students make a financial plan, or to get a job.
3. Give more than 2 days for college preview, especially for seniors. College is something we have been preparing for, for the last 4 years of our lives. Senior year is the chance to go to those colleges and see what we like and don't, and to avoid picking a college that isn't the best one for us.

Mrs. Hultman and Ms. Young

Mrs. Hultman is so kind! She often does small acts of kindness whether it be giving out candy or giving words of encouragement. She can see when someone is truly going through an internal battle even if they say they're "fine."

Ms. Young is amazing because she is very generous even to volunteers. She is a teacher that genuinely cares about our days, and she has instructed and informed me and other students about what is going on in the school and how to be on the right side of history.

I Love being an NHS Member!

Being an NHS member has exposed me to more issues in the world and to more places we can help people. I like that NHS brings in people around the school so they can give us their perspective of certain topics we cover. So far, my favorite part was making the gift bags! It was something tangible we could do and not have to worry about the materials or getting them to the place who received the gifts, but we could still help out. If we can do more things together that are more tangible, even if it is not at the school, I think that would be amazing! I like to make letters too, and we should continue to do that, but I know many people like myself who have a hard time thinking of something genuine and creative in their cards. So, maybe we could also learn how to speak life into people as part of NHS character pillar.
