These courses are mandatory and aimed at all frontline staff in contact with families, children and the public in an environment where signs of domestic abuse/domestic violence may be observable and who are in a position to 'Ask and Act'.

There are a number of themed workshops provided to students such as: Reflective Practice; Collaboration and Communication Skills and Working in Wales.

Practice Educators

We pay the fees for the Practice Educator Post Graduate Award and this qualification is supported by six themed workshops:

1. Induction and setting the scene with your student

2. Supervision session and skills required

3. Observations of practice and giving critical feedback

4. Dealing with Difficulties and Challenges and Theory to Practice

5. Dimensions of working in Wales with difference and diversity (inc. AOP & ADP)

6. Assessment skills and writing the final report.

Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) are supported through their first year in practice, they attend monthly peer support groups which periodically invite a guest speaker (e.g. an experience practitioner to share good practice and advice), there is a specific course on Safety, Wellbeing and Resilience.

Social Workers in their second year of practice undertake a mandatory PG Cert Consolidation qualification which is supported by five mandatory themed workshops:

• Learner Induction Session (AM) & Mentor Induction Session (PM)

• Workshop 1: Development Review (part a) reflection & critical reflection

• Workshop 2: Communication skills, methods, values, ethics and the COPPs linked to an Observation of Practice.

• Workshop 3: Safeguarding requirement, explore legislative framework, critically reflect on analysis of assessment

• Workshop 4: Safeguarding in an area that is not your own and part b of the development plan – what next?

Social workers can also attend a Mentoring Skills course to develop their skills whilst mentoring a NQSW during their first three years in practice.

In addition to the above we also provide courses on Trauma Informed Practice and Assessment & Analysis Skills (Signs of Safety training).
