Modernist Writers: Briefly describe each author's contribution to the Modern literary period. F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, & John Steinbeck

F. Scott Fitzgerald was the author of the Great Gatsby. As described by the USA Today, this novel is said to embody the american spirit, and shows a chilling example of how one can achieve their dreams.
Ernest Hemingway was an American Author during the 1990's. He had a certain style of writing that brought a realness of the literature that increased as he lost faith in Western idea and thought because of the war.
John Steinbeck is an American Author, the author of Mice and Men, the Grapes of Wrath, and East of Eden. These works often dealt with real issues that are going on in the world, such as social and economic issues.
Overall, these authors helped shaped how we see the modernist movement today, as they dealt with actual events going on. Since the modernism is a style of art or literature that breaks traditional or classical values, Modernism took literature by storm, and many other forms of expressions, as it provided a relief from the war thought in the atmosphere around them.

In literary criticism, stream of consciousness is a narrative mode or method that attempts "to depict the multitudinous thoughts and feelings which pass through the mind" of a narrator. It can also be described a literary style in which a character's thoughts, feelings, and reactions are depicted in a continuous flow uninterrupted by objective description or conventional dialogue. James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Marcel Proust are among its notable early exponents.
