A third reason, Auggie puts his head down and mumbles a lot is that maybe it his facial disorder that causes him to mumble a lot. Another reason Auggie might look down when people talk to him is that he doesn't want people to see what he looks like. Another reason, Auggie looks down when people talk to him is that he might be nervous to meet and talk to all these new people. Auggie also has cleft palate and that make it hard for him to talk making it seem like he is mumbling. Also, Auggie doesn't want people bullying him for what he looks like. Also, there are people who will bully him because he puts his head down and mumbles. Auggie Might mumble because he has a speech disorder. Auggie might mumble because he was homeschooled and doesn't know how to talk as well as other kids. Auggie might mumble because he knows that people judge him for what he looks like and maybe even how he acts. Auggie might mumble because maybe he has a weird voice and doesn't want people to hear it. Auggie might mumble and put his head down because he does not fit in. (Even though he does and has the potential to do something great and he might even be better than all the "normal" kids. Auggie can do something great.) Auggie might put his head down because he doesn't want to see all the reactions to people's faces. Auggie might not trust anyone  because he is new to the school and hasn't built that trust with anyone yet and he doesn't have anyone that wants to be his friend yet. Auggie is small for his age and he doesn't want to see all the big boys looking down at him. Auggie might mumble because he has all of his anomalies. Auggie might mumble because he has a squeaky or funny voice because we don't know that because he didn't go into detail on how his voice sounded. If they had put detail about what his voice sounded like then I wouldn't put that detail in.
