The central idea of the article is that so far boys are doing better in math. The article says math and computer science is for boys. "But we’re all influenced by a culture that says that subjects like math and computing are for boys,” states the article. "Without meaning to, teachers may call on the boys more often to solve problems, Weinberg said. " That means that teachers call on boys to answer more which leads to boys learning more than girls. This makes boys grades go higher. This show boys are doing better than girls.

There is an important idea in this article. In math, boys are doing better because they are favored over girls. Teachers always want there student's to do well in school, "But we’re all influenced by a culture that says that subjects like math and computing are for boys,” Also, "Without meaning to, teachers may call on the boys more often to solve problems," People influenced that math and computing are for boys and teachers calling on boys more often then girls conveys the claim that boys are doing better in math because, if people think math and computing are for boys, they won't focus on the girls. The boys will get more attention and learn more than the girls. This won't help the math gap and it will make it worse. Boys doing better in math is a prime idea in this article.
