Now temperatures are another story because it can get -20 degrees Fahrenheit!!!!!

I know I kind of want to go to Alaska, ( say this part fast) so I can see the bears, moose, wolves, brown bear, black bear, polar bear, small bear, little bear, baby bear, bald eagle, beluga whale, killer whale, big whale, little whale, maybe even a baby whale!

Iceland is a wonderful country. It may sound cold due to the word Ice, but it is actually warmer than greenland which sounds nicer due to the word Green, but Iceland is warmer and nicer. Iceland is an expensive place to visit. The 3rd most expensive place to travel to in the world 😮. There are northern lights in Iceland and they are beautiful. They look like a rainbow but green and over the clouds. Iceland is an amazing country, and I totally recommend going there. Sure it's the 3rd most expensive place in the world, but it's totally worth it because it is a sight to see.

The United States also said that Russia had invaded Ukraine. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) gave evidence of the invasion. NATO is a group of countries that defend one another.

A NATO official said at least 1,000 Russian soldiers were in Ukraine. They fought against Ukrainian soldiers. He said another 20,000 Russian soldiers were right over the Russian border.

Rebels inside Ukraine have been fighting against Ukraine's government for months. The rebels consider themselves Russian even though they live in Ukraine.

Today, I read about Kazakhstan on World Book Online. I thought it was interesting that Kazakhstan and Kazakhs were conquered by the Russian Empire. They were under the Soviet Rule for a long time period (1800-1991). Kazakhstan had to become part of the Soviet Union. In 1991, Kazakhstan then declared independence from the Soviet Union and didn't have to be part of it. I also thought it was interesting that Kazakhstan declared their independence when my mom was 10 years old. She grew up in Kazakhstan.

Vietnam's famous city is Ho Chi Minh City located in the south of Vietnam. Vietnam's neighbor are China, Laos, and Cambodia. One of the Famous war is the Vietnam War. It would be North Vietnam and China Vs U.S.A. and South Vietnam, but surprisingly China and North Vietnam won. North Vietnam slowly took the land and it is now today. Today, Vietnam is still allies with China. Vietnam is at peace.

Scientists are Excited that Island Foxes are thriving again off California Coast.The Channel Islands, off the coast of Southern California, are the only home of a Type of tiny fox that looks like a plush toy.

How the foxes got there from the mainland is up for debate. Maybe they arrived with Native Americans, or maybe they floated there on storm debris. Either way, research shows they have lived on the islands for thousands of years these descendants of the mainland's gray fox evolved into 4-pound "island dwarfs." they are just the size of a cat, for a long time, they were the top predators. A lot of kidnappings and shootings happen there. They don't have a good government and there is a lot of poverty. But Nigeria does have good food! There are swallows (solid puddings that you eat with soup) such as Eba, Poundo Yam, and Amala. There is also Puff-Puff (a sweet round doughnut like treat) and Plantains. Today, I read about Tokyo, Japan in an article in World Book Online called Tokyo. I thought it was interesting that most of Japan's best artists live in Tokyo and that some use styles of their ancestors to paint. Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world! The emperor of Japan lives in Tokyo since it is the capital of Japan. I also learned that Tokyo is probably the city that has the most neon signs. About 30 percent of Japan's population live in Tokyo. In Tokyo, there is a lot of traffic and pollution, but people also consider it to be one of the safest cities in the world! There are also sumo wrestling matches in Tokyo(sumo wrestlers try to push each other to the ground or out of the ring to win). You may be surprised to hear that baseball is the most popular sport in Tokyo. A National Stadium was completed in late 2019 for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Tokyo is quite a fascinating place!

I thought it was interesting that a British merchant named Captain William Mynors was the one who found and named this island on Christmas in 1643. In 1888, the British took over the island. Today, I read a article called volcanic island proves to be perfect breeding ground for fur seals. the year when this happened was 2019 and almost 2020. I thought it was interesting that fur seals are on a island with a volcano. The island was called Bogoslof island. The volcano exploded two years ago but some places on the island still spray mud and steam. I was surprised that those fur seals were on a island with a volcano because most fur seals go to the Bering Sea. I was also surprised because in the 1950s there were more than two million seals but the number of seals had dropped by more than half. What a surprising but cool article.

Kids have school, piano class and then they have tutoring, kind of like we do here in the U.S. What I thought was cool about South Korea was that how pretty the country is and here is why I think that. The language is the most beautiful language I have ever heard.

Today, I read a book about China. I thought the book was interesting because it rare animals such as giant pandas, golden hair monkeys, South China tigers, and more. These animals are risked to dye out. The Chinese language has over a thousand symbols. Then one of the coolest things in China is the "Great Wall of China"! Today I read about the great San Francisco earthquake. What I thought was interesting was that the earthquake caused a great fire too. I 1848 the population was 1,000 people in the 1950s the population was 50,000 people. It was the largest city west of the mississippi river. The reason San Francisco had so many earthquakes is because of the san andreas fault. The city was so successful that people called it the Paris of the west. Some of the wealthiest US citizens came to San Francisco. The city made a fire proof opera house. It took 26 years to build city hall and an earthquake ruined it. The electrical lines were broke so the city set on fire. Some soldiers made people to get out there house so they could continue exploding houses. The fire destroyed 50 blocks of the city. That is about the great San Francisco.

Korea has 24 letters in language, 2 short from in English. Some people there live in tall buildings where the apartments are. Most people eat rice and noddles, and kimchi is very popular there. Today I read about the Faroe Islands on World Book Online in an article called Faroe Islands. I thought it was interesting that the name can also be spelled as "Faeroe" or "Foroyar". The 18 islands have a population of approximately 53,000 people. The islanders are of Norse origin who fish, raise sheep, and sell eggs and feathers from birds that nest on cliffs. The people mainly speak Faroese and English. Norway ruled over the Faroe Islands from the 800's until 1380, when Denmark took control. Then, during World War ll, the British took over the Faeroe Islands. Three years after World War ll, Denmark finally granted self-government to the people of the Faroe Islands. They have their own parliament, or people elected to make laws. The representatives are sent to the Danish parliament in Copenhagen. The government is seated on the capital of the Faroe Islands, Torshavn, Streymoy. This place sure has an interesting history!

On May 3, Kilauea, a massive volcano located on Hawaii's Big Island, erupted sending burning-hot lava toward close homes and schools. Officials ordered more then 1,800 people to evacuate the area. The lava has already destroyed at least 26 homes and nine other buildings in the Leilani Estates neighborhood. The eruption came after a magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocked the Big Island. Then, on May 4, the eruption triggered a magnitude 6.9 earthquake-the strongest Hawaii has experienced in four decades.

Today I read an article called Not Easy for Panda Twins Born in U.S. Getting Used to Living in China on Newsela. Two twin pandas named Mei Lun and Mei Huan moved to China on November 5, 2016 after spending 3 years in the U.S. Their parents were born in China, but they were born in the USA. They had a hard time getting used to life in China. They liked American crackers so much that they even wanted it while drinking water! So it's no surprise that they don't want Chinese bread. It is also very hard for them to understand Chinese. They only know English. Luo Yunhong is the person who takes care of Mei Lun and Mei Huan, and he is trying to get them to eat bread. Mei Huan is starting to eat, but Mei Lun still refuses. The pandas have different personalities. Mei Huan is a little younger and has a lot more composure than Mei Lun, who likes to jump upon the roof and hang from a rail. These cute pandas are going to have to learn a lot to understand and accept Chinese life! Claire Chen
