In truth, my America is pretty hopeless right now. As a person, I am an aspiring actor, a pre-service teacher, and someone who knows both professions she loves are in danger. America doesn't care about equitable distribution of funds for all school districts, it doesn't care about providing curriculum that embraces all walks of life. She doesn't care that teachers are feeling abandoned. America doesn't care that her artists are floundering under the weight of bills and pressure to make something out of yourself that isn't just art. My America is divided. I don't believe in the American Dream. I believe that all you can do here is dream and work hard for the better future that has yet to exist. America has not curated my dreams, I have. My country does not feel like it belongs to me, for I know the second I deviate from societal norms, she will reject me. I would have to do or be something great to earn back her love. America is quick to forget the kinds of people who carried her on their backs so such a place could exist. She remembers the policy writers, but not those who spoke out for the policy. She remembers the text and not the meaning. It feels like this country has been cleaved in two, and that her people are forced to choose one side of the dichotomy or the other. There is no spectrum of belief, there is only right and wrong and whose perspective you are looking from. There is so much that needs fixing and no clear start. It makes patriotism an overwhelming task

I don't know if I necessarily struggle with this action, BUT I do struggle to keep up the energy of the distracting. Like if it's not working ASAP, I get bored, and that's something I wanna work on. COMMITMENT TO THE ACTION!

Text with Rhythm - The Witch's Rap

I couldn't resist using this piece from "Into the Woods" because the rhythm is undeniable. It's got a steady downbeat that can be picked out even when it is read a cappella. The moments where the rhythm has a variation from the original beat are so notable and purposeful, it emphasizes the importance of those moments. It feels like there's no way you could read this other than how it was written, but that could also be because I've done this show 4 times.

***

Greens green and nothing but green!
Parsley, peppers, cabbages, and celery. Asparagus and Watercress and Fiddleferns and Lettuce.
He said "Alright!" But it wasn't quite
cause I caught him in the autumn in my garden one night!

He was robbing me, Raping me.

Rudding through my rutabagga
raiding my arugula and
ripping up the Rampion
MY CHAMPION MY FAVORITE!

I shoulda layed a spell on him right THERE! Coulda turned him into stone or a dog or chair-eh-eh. *Momentary Trance"

But I let him have the rampion, I'd lots to spare in return however I said fair is fair. You can let me have the baby

that your wife will bear.. And we'll call it square

The special beans!
I let him go I didn't know he'd stolen my beans!
I was watching him crawl back over the wall when

BANG! CRASH! And Lightning Flash-
and well that's another story nevermind...

Anyway at last the big day came, I made my claim.

"Oh don't take away the baby!" They shrieked and screached but I did!
And I hid her where she'll never be reached! Your father cried and your mother died.
But for extra measure-I admit it was a pleasure- I said "Sorry I'm still not mollified"

and I layed a little spell on them.

You too son!

That your family tree will always be a barren one!

SHAMELESS- Fiona's Wedding Day(Moment of Orientation)

SPOILER ALERT:
I think there is such a huge moment of orientation here when Frank crashes his daughter, Fiona's, wedding. He's high and he starts calling members of the family out for their flaws as they try to kick him out of the venue. Here, he discloses that Fiona's fiancé, Sean, who is supposedly a recovered addict, has been using drugs regularly. There's a moment of orientation for everyone here, but especially Fiona, where she is forced to see Sean as somebody else, as somebody who lied to her daily and was still planning to go through with the marriage. Fiona has to see that, even though Frank is being a jerk and ruining the day, it's for the best because Sean is in the wrong. She can't go through being shackled to another addict in her life. Her perception of him as her gift from God and her person is damaged. Sean is just as drug-hungry as Frank, and she has to hold him accountable.

So it's safe to say I am obsessed with Siobhan and I am currently awaiting the day my dad reveals a secret multi-billion dollar corporation that he plans to leave to me. I HIGHLY identify with Siobhan and how well she manages people. I loved this scene between her and Nate, who she had an extended sexual history with. In this scene, Nate is, poorly, coercing her to reopen their affair, despite her wedding day being relatively soon. In the conversation, Siobhan has all of the power and all of the status. Nate finds himself almost begging her to indulge him when she finally delivers this line. It's the subtlety of her movements and expression that tells me she's sitting with high status. She doesn't need to overly gesticulate or exercise many different tones of voice. She holds herself with regality and it's clear she knows what Nate, and others, want from her. High status doesn't need to come through with a 'song and dance', it can be clear with the way one carries themself, as Siobhan demonstrates so well.

Something vital to Siobhan is what seems like an inherent need to succeed, in one way or another. I find it interesting how she immediately drops her political career and aspirations when her father hints that he may name her as his successor. I think Shiv's relationship to her father is an important dynamic to pay attention to. I think Logan is her inspiration and she wants to be as smart, savvy, and successful as he is.She's quite honest with Logan, and she doesn't really hide what she wants from him. She feels pretty confident in the fact that she's the smartest sibling, the most qualified to take over, and, most importantly, dad's favorite. When the prospect of following in her father's footsteps is in reach, I think she willing to do just about anything, including forsaking her own political beliefs, to be named successor. She'd do anything except, however, taking the fall for cruises...
