But according to Erik Borg he asks the questions on what counts as a Discourse Community and he challenges Swales definition of a Discourse Community.

Example:”How large(or small) a discourse community might be; whether speech is needed to maintain a discourse community; whether purpose is the defining characteristic of a discourse community, and how stable a discourse community, and therefore its genres, are”.

For my Discourse Community it is the Theatre of Western Springs.

Common Goals:Our goal is too make Theatre shows for people to watch.

Intercommunication:We have rehearsals to do practice scenes in, we have vocal lessons, remembering lines for the show, and we have a group chat that updates our rehearsal schedule.

Info and Feedback:We are given notes by the Director, the composer, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, and the cast ourselves give feedback too each other but also compliments to balance it out. After we are given the feedback we improve on that at home, it could be remembering lines, or remembering dance choreography, or acting performance, and practicing you’re singing.

Genre:When we do shows we have a schedule of people that need a mic when they go on stage. So when someone if offstage and won’t be on the stage until later they give to somebody else who needs the mic.On top of that for extras in the cast they might play different characters so they have to change costumes. And overall what side of the stage someone needs to be during a show.

Lexis:We have our own terminology, to specific terms like for example a the crew members that do Lights are called Booth because they are in the Booth or Tech, for the people who organize props we just called them props, and for Assistant Stage Managers we call them ASMs.For when we are doing a scene the director says ‘quiet on set, go’ and the actors for the scene do the scene.

Expertise:We have the Directors,Voice Coach,Stage Managers, and cast members who have been doing plays for awhile to help new members. They help them during scenes, give notes and feedback to give to new members that aren’t harsh, they help with singing, or blocking(telling them what to do in the scene like where to walk too and so on) and when we have tech rehearsals which is when we do rehearsals with the crew we listen to where the light and stand there. When we do transitions to another scene we help crew take outs props and furniture off the stage, etc.
