Each child’s progress is monitored, and data is used to make decisions about further instruction and intervention.  The goal is for the school to intervene before a student falls behind or special education is asked to evaluate for a disability.  However, many parents lack knowledge of the role of OT in schools, which limits student access to OT through RtI and can lead to decreased participation and access to the "life of the school" for elementary school aged students.
