August 5th, 1960 - The US doesn't want communism to spread and joins the fight.
August 4th, 1965 - North Vietnam becomes much more aggressive with the help of the Soviets.
November 15th, 1969 - America is split if it wants to keep fighting or stop the war.
April 29th, 1975 - US is basically defeated and leaves South Vietnam by itself to surrender. They were basically fighting for world dominance on a smaller scale. The Us was trying to contain, communism and the Soviets were spreading it, the same as it would be on a larger scale. This could even be seen as them testing each other's waters, seeing if they could take them on. Because of their loss the US economy was struggling and they were trying to make changes. Some of these were to make 18 years able vote, inflation had to be done to pay for the costs of the war, and made the president less in control of the whole military.
