About The Live Webinar

When inheriting or taking over an existing farm, it is essential to determine whether the operation qualifies as a legitimate farm business or is considered a hobby, as this distinction affects the deductibility of expenses. This webinar will guide participants through strategies to ensure the IRS recognizes their enterprise as a bona fide farm business and highlight best practices for starting or managing a farm. An optional second hour will feature interactive tax scenarios, allowing participants to apply the concepts covered and gain practical experience.

This webinar is open to everyone at no cost, thanks to an AgWorks grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. To help track grant reach and eligibility, participants will be asked questions about their farm or agribusiness during registration. Responses will remain confidential and will not be shared outside the project team.

NORRISTOWN, PA—Montgomery County invites residents and visitors to celebrate Earth Day at its first‑ever Sustainability Marketplace, a new community event highlighting local makers, sustainable businesses, and practical ways to live more sustainably. 

The Sustainability Marketplace will take place Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., along Swede Street between the Montgomery County Courthouse and One Montgomery Plaza at 425 Swede Street in Norristown. 

The marketplace will feature a curated lineup of local vendors offering sustainably made goods, eco‑friendly products, and locally sourced food. Attendees can shop from local makers, enjoy delicious bites, and learn simple, everyday ways to incorporate sustainable practices into their homes and lifestyles.  The event is open to the general public and free to attend.  

The County is seeking local businesses and organizations in the region to participate in the marketplace. Approved vendors will have the opportunity to sell products, share materials, and engage with attendees by showcasing their work and offering information on conservation and sustainable practices. Priority will be given to vendors whose work incorporates a sustainability focus, including—but not limited to—local sourcing or production, circular economy and waste‑reduction practices, energy efficiency, and environmental conservation.  

Potential vendors may include food businesses, local artisans and makers, composting services, vintage and upcycled resellers, design and energy‑efficiency firms, and organizations dedicated to educating the public about environmentally friendly practices. 

The vendor application deadline is March 31, 2026.

The SNAP Outreach Specialist leads community engagement, enrollment, and outreach efforts in Philadelphia to assist communities accessing SNAP benefits (food stamps). They will provide direct assistance in applying for and renewing SNAP, as well as health coverage programs (Medicaid and CHIP) as needed. They will be trained on the complex benefits eligibility rules, the application and verification processes, and best practices for community outreach and engagement. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the responsibilities below with specific personal qualities while meeting the position’s requirements.

UpRoot is searching for a Social Media Manager: Lead Content Strategist & Creator. 

UpRoot is a start-up organization dedicated to reclaiming the story of our food from Big Ag. By using social media and research on how people think, we work with everyday heroes–like doctors, farmers, and parents–to build power and lead the way to a healthier, more honest food system.

UpRoot is a project of EarthShare, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Eligibility:

• Young Farmers: Between 18-35 years of age, or

• Beginning Farmers: 10 years or less of reported Schedule F income, or

• Small Farmers: Less than $350,000 in annual gross cash farm income

Applicants must reside within Horizon Farm Credit's service territory and do not need to be Farm Credit customers.
