The series follows Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany), an outcast and orphaned young woman who lives changed after witnessing the suicide of Elizabeth Childs, an exact woman just like her. Sarah steals her identity, her boyfriend and the bank account, but her problems multiply. Sarah discovers more women like her (clones), who will unite to discover where they come from, and why they can not have children, an exception of Sarah, who has a daughter called Kira. These are trapped in a conspiracy, where the son pursues a killer who does his best to kill all the clones. They will have to do the unthinkable to stay alive while investigating who they are and what kind of experiment they are part of.
