Most people would feel that honesty is the best policy. Being honest means that people would see you as trustworthy. Being trustworthy means that people would be more open to you and that builds bonds of friendship to those people. If one is constantly dishonest, that person would have a bad reputation from other people,which means that they no longer trust that person and ultimately, people would take that person's words with a grain of salt, even if that person's words are true. Thus, being dishonest would mean that friendships would be broken, people doubting you, and even your family losing their trust with you. From my personal experience, honesty is indeed the best policy, and that I always tell the truth unless I come across a situation which forces me to tell a white lie.
