This book is about homophobia. A boy named Melanin finds out his mom is gay, however he has a really hard time trying to accept his mom for who she is. He becomes very disrespectful and rude. He calls her things such as, "dyke" through out the book. The author is trying to say that we should love and accept our family for how they are.

In the video,"Cyclist takes down anti-LGBT preacher", homosexuals are the victims of homophobia. A homophobic man, also known as a perpetrator, shouts hurtful things such as, "LBGT people have to repent" -(which means regret or be sorry for)- And, "Stand up to them." No one in the crowd say or do anything to try to stop him, besides a cyclist upstander who is homosexual. He tells the man that he is gay and if he has anything to say, he can say it to his face. The man the tells the cyclist that god doesn't love him. Before he rides off, the cyclist then adds, "I love me, I don't need god to do it." The crowd cheer him on and the man stops talking. This helps homosexuals feel stronger, and motivates them to use there voice and spread positivity.

The picture book, "Heather Has Two Mommies", challenges the sterotypes about homosexual families. For example, in the story, when a kid in her class asks her "daddy" does, Heather replies with, "I don't have a daddy." She then says that she has two mommies instead. The author seems to suggest that you should love you family for what it is and not be ashamed.
