The true necessity for monuments is in their power “in conveying historical truth” allowing different chances “for dialogue in public spaces” (Sandage). 

Truthfully, the importance of allowing a monument to stand is to preserve the past even if it isn’t up to our nation’s standards, since the danger is in if “we ever forget about it” (Nikos-Rose).
