Scientist have found that the brain has a limited ability to multitask and often has difficulty focusing on and accurately focusing on more than one stream of info at a time. There focused too much on their phones that they usually forget to look back at the real world. But people still text and drive.

AT&T made a campaign called “it can wait”. It’s a campaign that tells people that texting while driving is very dangerous and bad. They are trying to persuade people to stop texting while driving by making commercials, informing on the radio, and through social media that they should stop texting while driving. They also made a film with Verizon and t-mobile about a boy and his tragedies when texting while driving. AT&T now has made an app which auto responds to texts when there driving.

Accidents when distracted by their phone

Lots of accidents have happened to people when they are distracted by their phone. One time a 17 year old was texting when he was driving and ran through a red light and crashed into another vehicle. Another time a parent was taking a picture of her kids by the water, then she was trying to post it on twitter, and the kid drowned, without the mom noticing. There has also been much more accidents when using the phone.

Why teens text and drive

It is mostly teens who text while drive. Some reasons why is because they think the chances of getting hit is low, they see their friends do it so they do it because they think it’s cool, and also they get bored when they drive. 48% of teens see their parent’s text and drive and that plays a big role on them so teens usually do it because they think it is okay. 97% of teens agreed that texting while driving is dangerous, 43% still admitted to doing so and 77% remained confident that they themselves could do it safely.

Texting while driving is extremely dangerous. If you get in an accident then it doesn't just hurt you, it hurts everyone around you. A drivers risk is 23 times higher when he or she is texting while driving. It is dangerous and it can cause major injuries and even death.

The cause and solution

The cause is that people are using their phone when they shouldnt, like in their car. The solution to stop texting and driving might not seem easy because it is so addicting, but actually it is very simple. All you have to do is put away your phone while you are driving, and never pick it up, even if someone texted you.
