Cummings does this to convey a lack of unity, much like the lack of elegance of humanity and its actions. This poem is a perfect example of broken images through fragmentation.

I went ahead and boldened the specific nouns and descriptive words Eliot uses in these first few lines. These words are pessimistic in nature and give a dark image of the seasons. He also chooses "spring rain" in line 4, which normally symbolizes sadness and emptiness.

This poem reflects the cosmopolitan characteristic of modernist poetry. This poem is about struggling with mental illness and struggling to cope with dark thoughts. It's appeals to the audience as many, if not all, from time to time struggle with our mental health.

The poem takes you in the mind of the narrator of the impact of suffering. The words in the quote of Brooke describing the dreams he has of feeling helpless and rehearing the death of other men, this shows an example of modern poetry if taking you through the mind of a solider.
