Asama (TUESDAY) Today we went and explored about Air Pollution and then our class searched for the place where the dust is in. When our class went to the bridge, I noticed that the air smelled very bad. Air pollution is causing bad effect on people ,plants and animals because lots of old bus , cars and trucks has lots of exhaust. It's very bad for our health and for our planet. (THURSDAY) Today we made a thing that caches the pollution. We would leave it for 5 days and put it at the different places.

Pollution, we hear it every other day at school, college and read about it in newspapers. So what is it? Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surroundings; which brings about changes that affect our normal lifestyles adversely. Pollutants are the key elements or components of pollution which are generally waste materials of different forms. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem and the balance in the environment. With modernization and development in our lives pollution has reached its peak; giving rise to global warming and human illness.

Pollution occurs in different forms; air, water, soil, radioactive, noise, heat/ thermal and light. Every form of pollution has two sources of occurrence; the point and the non-point sources. The point sources are easy to identify, monitor and control, whereas the non-point sources are hard to control. Let us discuss the different types of pollutions, their causes and effects on mankind and the environment as a whole.

Asthma

Asthma is a disease that may be caused by air pollution. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council or NRDC—a non-profit international environmental advocacy group based in New York City, New York—asthma is a chronic, occasionally debilitating inflammatory disease of the airways that may be caused by air pollution from cars, factories or power plants. The NRDC states that the following air pollutants are common triggers of asthma: ground level ozone, sulfur dioxide, fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC states that another important trigger for asthma attacks is environmental or secondhand tobacco smoke. The CDC suggests that parents, friends and relatives of children with asthma should attempt to quit smoking and should never smoke in proximity to a child or person with asthma, as this could cause an asthma attack.

COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or COPD is a disease that may be caused by air pollution. The U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health or NIH state that, with COPD, a person's airways and air sacs lose their shape and become distended or floppy, and that chronic bronchitis and emphysema are common COPDs. According to the American Lung Association or ALA, long-term exposure to air pollution—especially automobile exhaust—boosts women's risk for lower lung function, COPD and dying prematurely, and truck drivers, dockworkers and railroad workers may be more susceptible to lung cancer-, heart- and COPD-related death due to chronic exposure to diesel emissions while on the job. The ALA also notes that even low levels of ozone and fine particulate matter increase a person's risk of hospitalization for pneumonia and COPD.
Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is a disease that may be caused by air pollution.
Pollutions effect on the atmosphere

Cars, trucks, and smokestacks also release tiny particles into the atmosphere. These tiny particles are called aerosols. They can be made of different things such as mineral dust, sulfates, sea salt, or carbon. Some of these particles get into the atmosphere naturally. They are dust lifted into the atmosphere from deserts, from evaporating droplets from the ocean, released by the smoke from wildfires, and erupting volcanoes. But air pollution released by humans by burning of fossil fuels also adds them to the atmosphere. Aols have a impact on climate. While different types of aerosols act differently in the atmosphere, the overall effect of aerosols is cooling.

This week we learned about air pollution. We also observed why there was air pollution.

We checked around the school. We saw dust on the roof of the sports hall and it was not too dusty but once we went to the middle of the bridge we saw a lot of dust in the air so once I wore a special N95 mask and when I took it off it felt very dusty so I coughed a lot. Because there were lots of cars, and petrol station and factories costumes a lot of fossil fuels which goes to the air and pollute gas

Unlike Thailand, Singapore occasionally has haze in the past because of the burning wood from all the way from Indonesia that’s why my friend had to come to Thailand.
