I have recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and would like to know what my options are when the time comes. I am undecided whether a hospice or hospital would be best for end of life care and would like to explore this in more detail. I suppose some of my own experiences with the medical system have made me lose faith in the advice of clinicians. I hope that by hearing the stories of others, I will be able to gain an authentic overview of my options.

I am hoping to be able to develop and understanding of how I can best support the people that I care for ensuring that their dignity is maintained and protected. I feel that this is something which is sometimes lost. I have often witnessed the patients becoming institutionalized and a subject of convenience as soon as they enter a hospice or residential care home. My objective is to better understand the little indignities that may be suffered by patients with cognitive impairment.

As a hospital manager I spend a lot of my time on risk management, particularly relating to discrepancies or disagreements between hospital staff and patients. I would really like to use this opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how the gap between my professional objectives and the ethics can be best bridged
