Being a Mexican female, isn't always the easiest. For the most part, "our job" is in the house. Mexicans especially, are known for doing the wrong things. We're defined as being not the smartest and constantly getting into trouble with drugs, sex, etc. For me, it's made me push myself to become better than my tias and tios.

My moms side of the family lives in Guanajuato, Mexico. The city is very compact. Everybody knows one another. Overall, the city isn't that safe, I feel safe and myself. In these cities of Mexico, every house is different. Although, they are built a specific way, the people make the house and buildings what they are. Walking down a street, you see a bunch of colors, patterns, and lights. That's something that's very different than the U.S.

Spanish is a beautiful language that has become very popular and even a second language to many. As I continue to grow and learn to speak/understand Spanish, I start to get closer to my roots. It connects me with my grandparents and other relatives that only speak Spanish. I'm happy that I'm able to have a conversation and not feel trapped in one language. I'm glad I can express myself to my family.

Our religion is very important to us. If you would go to Mexico or even Little Village which is by Chicago(where my grandparents live), and you go inside a house. Most likely you will see a bunch of rosaries, wooden crosses, and the virgin of Guadalupe. It helps us through a lot of tough times in our lives. It makes us feel more secure about something that we can't control. That feeling is like no other.

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. But it's also the most popular Mexican sport. Us Mexicans love our soccer and it makes us very happy and loud whenever we watch a game. It makes us feel alive. That's exactly the way I feel when I play soccer. Soccer connects many if not all Mexicans. We feel powerful and united as one. That's something that we don't always feel.

Mexican food is the best food. In my opinion, the food describes our culture. The food is very authentic and very tasty. It's my favorite and makes me feel alive. Food makes us express us as people. Mexican food expresses us and how we are. For me, the amount of spice that is in the foods, relates to how feisty and loud we are. The colors expresses how vibrant we are and how our moods can be similar and different at the same time.
