Daisy's arrival is a big scene in this chapter and Fitzgerald creates immediate tension by dressing her up and describing in her in such high honor. It leads to the aspect of having this girl who is already stopping everything so every first interaction will be special.

These two scenes particularly add a sense suspicion for Daisy and as the readers we know what is about to happen. It brings tension in that it leads up to the big reveal and then its gone. With Gatsby not in the house it also continues the tension because there is more for the reader and Nick.

These were the two moments right before the release of all the tension. Gatsby and Daisy see each other again for the first time in years. It is what Gatsby was waiting for for so long. This is were the tension is at its peak because Fitzgerald uses silence to to the final build up.

The past couple pages had been anticipating Daisy's arrival and there was that release, but then it began being built again with the waiting for her to see Gatsby. Which brought on a different level only because it's what Gatsby and the reader had been waiting for so when Gatsby had left it confused everyone. Then when he re enters and sees daisy it brings back the sense of tension as we are getting ready for them to speak. When Daisy says the simple short "I certainly am awfully glad to see you again." it finally releases that large amount of tension that was withstanding.
