Each term the students who have increased their reading age the most will receive a celebration certificate at our end of term assembly.

Over the course of 5 years, students will practise the spellings of 300 different words.

Each list of 10 words is composed of 1 commonly misspelt words from the 1000 high frequency word list, 3 words from Yr 3/4 statutory spelling list, 3 words from Yr 5/6 statutory spelling list, and 3 words from a list of challenging Tier 2 vocabulary.

Learning how to accurately spell a wide range of vocabulary is an important skill because it helps other people to read and understand your writing.  In fact, 5% of the marks awarded in GCSE English Literature, History, Geography and Ethics are based on the accuracy of your SPaG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar).

However, students are encouraged to always remember  that the most important thing of all is to be ambitious with vocabulary.  Students should never let a fear of not knowing how to spell a word, put them off from using it in their writing.
