Learning Design Approach - ABC Learning Design

Timing - 60-90 minute Asynchronous Lesson

Session Learning Outcomes:

Learners will be able to identify common types of non-verbal communication, recognize effective non-verbal communication skills and evaluate the impact of non-verbal communications on communication as a whole.

Learners will be able to identify key elements of effective visual communication, such as color, layout, and typography. Students will also be able to create clear and visually engaging materials, like posters, slides, or infographics, to convey information and Use visual tools (e.g., charts, diagrams) to simplify complex information for better understanding.

Students will watch a video on non-verbal communication and take notes in whichever way suits them best, for example; bullet points, mind maps etc. These notes should contain what it is, where it can be found/used, and any other information students feel is necessary and useful.

Students will do any further research necessary in order to create a simple educational poster about Visual Communication. The poster can be designed in whichever way they like, but must promote the key values of Visual Communication while also including some of the details in the learning outcome.

Students will use Canva for this and then post it on a shared Google Slides between to class to create a Collaborative Learning Board.

Students will spend time reading through the Padlets on non-verbal and visual communication. They will then share comments on each others posts and adding further ideas if they are inspired by what other people have said to gain a deeper understanding of visual communication.

Students will now research further research the importance of non-verbal communication and how it is portrayed and used while keeping an eye on the learning outcomes. These notes can be added to their notes from the first task and will then be shared on a Shared Padlet.
