The way of how humans can modify the land is to completely change the environment in ways such as building a dam on a waterfall to use the water for purposes like irrigation. Humans can adapt to land by changing their routines or habits. One example is growing different crops based on your region. Humans depend on land by living off the resources provided to them. These resources can be water, trees, animals etc.

Sustainability is being able to use limited resources in a way that does constrict its use by future generations. The way it connects to population is when you have a lot of resources, those resources are harder to sustain. China is a good example on how a large population, makes sustainability an issue. Since about 1 billion people in the country and most of them own a car. Gasoline prices are probably very high.

You correctly define sustainability, however your connection to population is unclear. Think of it this way: What happens to resources as populations rise? - Mr. D

A lot of people are born but they die quickly due to the poor conditions, no countries fit in this category. Stage 2 is when the population starts growing rapidly because the death rates fall. The country has better access to water, medical care, and sanitation. Stage 3 is when the country's birth starts falling. The country has better technological advances than stage 2. In stage 4 the country growth stabilizes and doesn't grow anymore, this is where the country starts becoming very advanced and creating new technologies. Last but not least in stage 5 the country starts losing people because the birth rate is lower than the death rate.

Strong summary of the 5 stages. - Mr. D

A Free market is where there is no government is involved in the decisions. They choose how their resources are used. A Command type system is where the government is in control. They choose how they manage their resources. A lot of people are in poverty, not a lot of access to clean water, and mostly everyone is illiterate. A good example is Nepal. They have limited resources and a bad infrastructure, so they dont have a good enviornment to function. A developed country is industrial, makes alot of GDP per year, has access to clean water, and everyone has access to an education. A good example is the U.S. We have a good infrustucture, healthcare, a lot of happy people that live happy lives.
