My name is Lawrence Cheeks and I was born and raised in Alabama. I attended Auburn University Montgomery and obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in December of 2001. I am K-6 Certified. I have taught third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade. I moved to San Angelo Texas last August due to receiving a job at Glenn Middle teaching Sixth Grade. Living here in Texas is very different from Alabama, but I am certainly enjoying the weather, the friendly people, and the great food here. I am also currently attending Graduate School at Angelo State University; where I am working towards my Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. I anticipate or hope to finish graduate school no later than 2019. After graduation, I would love to receive a job as a Guidance Counselor. This is my second semester of graduate school. I have a few more courses to take before I can complete my program.
I am a person who meets no strangers and believe in helping anyone that I can. I consider myself to be an optimist, one who always looks for the good in others. I am also one who encourages others and likes to receive encouragement. I believe, in order to stay positive, diligent, and consistent, one must find balance with his or her life. Finding balance will keep you from experiencing burnout. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. I am learning to separate and prioritize every area of my life in order to keep and maintain balance.
I have learned also how to appreciate people and things that comes in and out of my life. I try to live and enjoy every day as if it was my last. Life seems too short. I try to laugh, and find something to smile about each day. I believe laughing and smiling is more pleasant and healthy to the body than stress and worrying. I am enjoying the process of life as God continues to work on and through me. I take no credit for where I am in my life, I give all glory and honor to God for he is truly worthy! These are some of the things that I do to take care of myself and keep from experiencing burn out.
