Brag Board: You Earned It! by Katey Pratt

As we approach the final stretch of the semester, it's important to take time to reflect on the progress you've made. While the semester is not yet complete, this week we will focus on celebrating your academic growth, personal achievements, and the learning that has taken place thus far. In this reflection, you will consider the goals you’ve met, the challenges you’ve overcome, and the skills you've developed. This is an opportunity to recognize your accomplishments and set a positive tone as we prepare for the final phase of the semester. Let’s take a moment to acknowledge your hard work and use that momentum to finish strong. Make a video, share an audio recording or make a post sharing what you have accomplished this semester. Celebrate your classmates by sharing an encouraging word or thank you on their post as well.

My HUGE shout-out is for Christian and Aaron honestly, what a dream team! Working with them on this project was like working with the Avengers of group work, minus the capes (but with just as much power). From day one, we clicked right away with great communication, solid collaboration, and not a single moment of awkward silence or group project dread.

They both brought ideas to the table that made me go, “Why didn’t I think of that?”.

They also both kept the group on track, making sure no detail slipped through the cracks. Basically, we had creativity, organization, and a good dose of laughs (we did our project on humor after all) what more could you ask for?

I’m seriously grateful to have been paired up with these two. If there were a group project Hall of Fame, we’d have a plaque, maybe even a medal. Thanks, Christian and Aaron, for making this such a fun, productive, and genuinely enjoyable experience. You both rock!

I'm celebrating a semester of better school/home/work balance! I've been holding myself accountable to just let things go, knowing that there's always more I can do/read/write/learn another time. I've been enjoying school more, I've been less cranky at home, and I don't think I've actually been getting much less done.

Hooray for mental health!

I am reflecting on a very busy semester in my role. I do hiring and training for my department and in the fall my coordinator took a new position leaving me as a team of one. In that time I have scheduled nearly 500 student interviews for 4 different roles and hired about 250. I just finished up a 3 month hiring process for several full-time staff members, from reviewing 80 applications to semifinalist interviews, finalist interviews, and reference checks of 11; just presented my recommendations yesterday! I planned and presented a week of training in January for our 200 student staff and 30 professional and graduate staff and am currently working on our 4-week training cycle for July and August. And I helped redesign our departmental student employee structure including proposing new positions and developing a $4.5M dollar budget.

Honestly, I'm pretty tired. None of it has been perfect, but I got it done.

This semester I started my first job in Denmark! I am working as a music therapist in a local school with kids with a variety of disabilties. I get to work with so many extraordinary students, but it's been quite a difficult adjustment period for me, as I'm a full-time student at CSU, attending 10-hours of Danish courses each week, and navigating a new job, where I sometimes get to speak English, but am mostly speaking Danish. It's been tough to juggle, but I'm proud of all the hard work I've done this semester, between all these aspects of my life--it's amazing to see what we can do when we put our minds to it. I'm finding school and work, both, to be so rewarding. And despite my busy schedule, I'm so grateful for the opportunities to learn and grow.

I'm proud of the work I've been able to do and proud of my students as they are getting ready to graduate. I've really enjoyed this class and learning different ways to facilitate learning and engage students. Big shout out to my group of Emily Byerly and Hulsey Gilchrist who made the group project fun and manageable. It was also great to meet online and have some fantastic conversations and see some faces!

My first semester in grad school has been wonderful. All the concepts we've learned have come up in my day-to-day job. It has given me the confidence and wherewithal to start thinking about new opportunities. One of my close friends and coworkers has been discussing starting our own sales enablement and training practice. Further, I mentored a student in the local university's professional selling program, capped off their project with a Role Play (Learning Method!!!), and met the instructor. Making those connections as well as the business idea has provided a lot of inspiration and clarity I was seeking from this program.

This is my second semester in the AET/LDT program, and lately, I’ve been feeling the growing pains of balancing full-time work, life, and school. After registering for my summer and fall courses, I started to feel a bit panicked about the workload ahead. But when I took a step back, I realized there were several things I could either step away from or let go of entirely. Taking the time to reassess and reprioritize helped shift my mindset and reminded me that this grad school journey is something I’m meant to enjoy, not just endure.

I've not kept it a secret that your engagement with each other and your resulting learning has been wonderful. I know that every time I log into class I am going to be blown away by what you all are doing. Its a treat every time I check in! I also want to acknowledge that this takes a lot of time and effort on your part, but it is recognized and appreciated.
