Internet Meme

I thought that this was a pretty funny meme that relates to our book. In the book our character faced many times of hardship with little to no food. Throughout the book the only food I remember them having in the concentration camps were bread and soup. At the end of the book the main character looked into a mirror after being freed and was surprised at how skinny he was, referring to his own reflection as a corpse. I can imagine the main character listening to someone complaining that they're hungry after not eating for a couple of hours and he can use this meme.

I thought that the cover for our book was nice and all however I thought that using a realistic picture would've been more nice. Throughout the book the mentioning of barbed wire throughout the book was really important and thats why I decided to keep the theme of the book cover. Throughout the book the character was always surrounded by barbed wires in the concentration camp and had even questioned giving up his life rather than go through the tortures in the concentration camps with the wires.

Recommendation

Dear Readers,
Although There isn't anyone specific I would recommend "Night" to, I would recommend it to those who are interested in World War 2 history especially the Holocaust. This book is a memoir, meaning a real life account of what has happened to them, that takes place during the time of Hitler's rule and his anti-semitic laws being placed on the Jewish population of Europe. The story follows a teenage boy who is put into many concentration camps and gets separated from his sister and mother and has to undergo many challenges. However, keep in mind this book isn't for the weak hearted! There are many horrific scenes in the book and shows the cruel nature of the concentration camps. I believe that reading this book will help widen your views and learn about the past and the inhumane ways people were treated unlike today's society where not many people experience such things. Unlike the rest of the books from the choices of memoirs in our class the book "Night" is by far one of the saddest books compared to the rest which makes it different and stands out. For all those who don't like reading long books, "Night" is also a good choice as it is fast paced and relatively short compared to most memoirs. To all those who like adventure and survival books this book is the the best choice for you, it's a new experience as you get first hand experience which is different from what you get from history textbooks. Rather than giving you facts this book is filled with emotion, passion, and tragedy.

bread and soup - symbol for hope and survival, throughout the book the character relies on only bread and soup in order to survive, when not given these things the character always felt like he was on the brink of death, but when given food he has hope to survive.
barbed wire - stands for a imprisonment, the main character is always trapped and surrounded by barbed wires
fire - is another symbol for death and insanity, in the book there is a women who keeps mentioning fire after she lost her sanity. fire is also represententing death as prisoners always refer to death as the crematories and the smoke from the chimneys.

Memorable Quote

"Many years later, in Paris, I was reading my paper in the Metro. Facing me was a very beautiful woman with black hair and dreamy eyes. I had seen those eyes before somewhere. It was she." pg 51

I really liked this quote because it was one of the first times the main character in our book mentioned anything about the future and it was out of the blue and very sudden which was unlike him. I even found it funny how he suddenly mentioned it. This quote talks about how he met a girl he met in a concentration camp who helped ive him hope to live on, on a metro many many years later in the future.
