THINK: 2 Key Questions
1.	Why could you call a baby “a citizen of the world” when it comes to language?

They can discriminate all the sounds of all the languages no matter what countries are evaluated, or language are being used. Adult s on the other hand cannot do this because they are cultural bound listeners. They can only discriminate their own language. Before the babies first birthday, the “citizen of the world” turns into a culture bound listener.

2.	In your view what else needs to be combined with language ion order for learning to take place in the baby?

In my view babies learn from direct contact with human beings and not from television and audio.

They're not culture bound listeners; they don't only hear the sounds from language of their own.<br>2. Nurturing interactions are also valuable to babies' early language development. Parents, caregivers and other children can help babies to develop the language skill by talking to them. Face to face interactions are necessary to help babies learn to talk.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.    I think they are referred to as citizens of the world because they are born without speech they don’t speak any language and later can develop to speak a specific languages based on where they grow up. Babies are a lot better than grown-ups at learning new languages. The first three years of a child a critical period and language is one of the best examples. From 0-7 years children are phenomenal at their abilities to simply absorb information about a language by hearing it  which makes it easier for them to learn <br><br></div><div>2. Babies learn better with different visuals like observing, watching faces and responding to voices listening to sounds and making sounds and singing. When they Playing and interacting with you and others it  helps them  learn the skills they needs for life – like communicating, thinking, problem-solving, moving and being with other people and interacting with them. Exploring with different “safe objects” – for example, putting things in her mouth, and using things like toys such as blocks and shape puzzles.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hlatse <br><br>1. Babies are considered "citizens of the world" when it comes to languages because they are able to discern between different languages, regardless of the country or sound. They are able to absorb the languages spoken around them and hence retain the language, with bilingual babies their brains are able to retain two sets of statistics that represent each language they speak and hence they are able to alternate between the two languages. Adults in contrast are unable to think this way as their statistics have been set in memory and they are accustomed to "culture-bound listening" where they are only able to hear their own language. <br><br>2. In my experience, I would say that language combined with patience and exposure to different forms of learning, such as tv shows that are suited to babies and different games such as blocks with colours help babies make associations and hence better develop their language as well as their other skills such as their fine motor skills. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mirriam<br>1. Babies are considered citizens of the world because they are not limited by the culture they are born into when it comes to learning a language. If they are socialized with humans from other cultures who speak a language which is new to them they are able to familiarise themselves with that language by picking up and analysing the sounds which are particular to that language. The critical time in which babies are able to learn a new language is from 6-8 months, thereafter from ten months they are tied to the language they were exposed to in those 2 critical months of learning. If babies are exposed to two different languages during the critical stage of language learning they are able to discriminate between the two by switching to the language they recognise.<br>2. In my view human social interaction needs to be combined with language in order for language learning to take place in the baby.   </div>]]></description>

As adults we loose this ability. <br><br>2. Visual activity helps babies relate words to either objects or expressions. They need to hear it from a person not just a recording to make sense. e.g. Showing a child  different blue objects while saying the word blue and then showing objects of another color repeating those color names. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. A baby could be called a 'citizen of the world', because as the presenter stated, "they can discriminate all sounds from all languages". This means that babies are able to discriminate different languages from each other and are able to learn each language they come into contact with. What was interesting for me was that as soon as a baby has their first birthday, this ability starts to vanish. <br>2. I believe that a good combination for learning languages is social interaction and also the ability to actively listen. The baby needs to see a human being, interact with them and listen to what they are saying. Through this they will be able to discriminate sounds and learn the language. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) I think babies can be seen as citizens of the world because at such a young age their ability to acquire a new language is remarkable and they obtain the ability to learn any language if they receive the correct exposure and learning style. <br>2) Along with the correct exposure such as speaking, writing and daily practice I am lead to believe that listening to the language - even if you don't understand it just yet- can have amazing effects on the ability of a child to learn the language as constant exposure is vital. Pictures and for small children interactive shows can really capture and retain a child's attention and interest in learning any language. </div>]]></description>

The environment in which the baby grows greatly influence his/her ability to learn. The baby needs constant exposure to the language, this as the language is spoken to and around the him/her.
