We thought that she wrote it because of her past. We said that people hate on her because of what she lived like as a kid. That people try to make her feel bad but she don´t let that get to her and she keeps fighting. My favorite stanza was ¨You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I will rise." I like this one because me and my friends at church talk about this a lot. That people can hate you, say hurtful things about our realign. But at the end of the day to not hate back.

We thought that this poem was about her life and how people would look at her. I think she made this poem to express herself. For example the first stanza she says ¨You may write me down in history , with your bitter ,twisted lies. I think shes talking about how people were racist towards her and towards other African American. Also she mentions rise many times in this poem and I think she was trying to tell us that she will keep going and getting up everyday.

We thought the poem looked back on her life. She went through a lot growing up and people thought automatically since she went through a lot that it would bring her down. She didn't let everything get to her like people thought it would, she overcame her challenges in life and beat them to the ground! She bettered herself with the help of her teacher helping her realize that she can speak up and be heard. I made a connection with the stanza saying " did you want me to be broken" a lot of people have doubted me over the years just as they have with Maya and i proved them wrong just as she did.

We thought that she was telling her life. Because of the back history and she was expressing herself. We also thought that she was telling how other people viewed her. For example she says "do you want to see me broken" and shes just saying how she thinks people viewed her. She was also telling us that after everything "she will rise" and this tells us that she was able to get through every thing in her life.

We thought Maya Angelous poem was about slavery. We thought she was defending every African American when she would talk about her self. For example it states "Did you want to see me broken?Bowed head and lowered eyes?Shoulders falling down like teardrops,Weakened by my soulful cries?" when she is talking about herself but is reffering to other people. She also talks about slavery in the end of the poem which just supports our claim when she says "I am the dream and the hope of the slave." We also talked about which stanza was our favorite and I mentioned the part where she wrote "You may shoot me with your words,You may cut me with your eyes,You may kill me with your hatefulness,But still, like air, I’ll rise." because it shows bravery and independence.

We thought that Maya Angelou was speaking for all the African American community As stated in the end of the poem it says "Bringing gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of slave. I rise." She is trying to emphasize that they are a strong and you cant harm her because they will rise. My favorite stanza in the poem is "You may kill me with you hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise." She is emphasizing that people will always be hateful but you always need to stay strong.

We thought that the meaning behind the poem was that the world was trying to bring Maya down, but she was having none of it. The name of the poem was 'Still I Rise', indicting that whatever the world does to her, she will rise from it. Maya said, " You may write me down in history; With your bitter, twisted lies. You may trod me in the very dirt; But still, like dust, I'll rise." She is saying that even if the people against Maya lie about her, she will persevere against them. Also I put some chords to the poem and it sounds absolutely amazing.

We had many thoughts on what the meaning behind this poem was. I personally think she made this paragraph to express her self to everyone around her. I feel like she wanted everyone to know that no matter how much everyone stepped on her or pushed her down she would always rise, like she said many times in her poem. She made it clear to everyone that she was someone in life and she will keep rising no matter what anyone said, thought, or did. In my group we also talked about this being how she felt everyone thought of her. Everyone thought she was nothing but she wants to show them how she really is something. I think she felt this way because of all of the things that had happened to her throughout her life and she felt like everyone hated her in different ways but wanted to show everyone that no matter what they did she will be a bigger person in life.

I think the meaning behind this poem is that no matter how hard u try to brake her she still pushes through it. No matter what you do or say to her will bring her down, she said "did you want to see me broken" . She is showing no matter what you been through there is always a way to stay positive. There will be people that will lie and make things up. She didnt let people get to her like they thought they would

Me and my Josiah thought the meaning of the poem was that Maya was making statements on how people wanted to see he down, sad, or broken she still would stay strong. We thought that the reasoning behind her doing this was because in the time she wrote this poem it was a hard time for colored people. She made a poem and that poem helped the colored community stand up for their race. Maya was a strong woman and didn't let people break her down like she says in her poem " Cause i can laugh like i have gold mines digging in my backyard." . She lived er life without letting people break her down.
