I choose the word loyalty because it shows how the dogs and cat never gave up to find there owners. I think the pets showed loyalty to each other by staying by each other side. They stuck up for each other and encouraged each other to make it to their family. Along with Loyalty, I had friendship which resembles the love and bond the animals had for each other and their owners. Friendship also is seen between the community, Mr. Longridge and the Hunter family because they all came together to create a search for the pets.

I used the words determination and courage in my cloud because the pets were determined to make it home to their family and they show a lot of courage to leave Mr. Longridge’s home and face the wilderness to find their family. Tao showed courage throughout the book by fighting off the bears, being face to face with a mountain lion and then being swept away by the river. He never gave up and helped the dogs keep that determination and courage to make it. Determination could also be seen from Mr. Longridge because he was determined to find the pets. The book was really an incredible journey so I included those words in my cloud. I was incredible that these three house pets survived a 400km journey in Canada’s wilderness to get back to their family.

The book “The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Brunford was an adventurous book. It had all of the aspects to make a great adventure as three pets tried to find their way back home across Canada’s wilderness. There was physical action, courage, heroes and danger throughout the book. The author really tries to make you feel like you are in the middle of the action like when Tao, the cat fights off the bears to save Bodger, the old bull terrier. I could feel the pain and hopelessness that Bodger felt when the baby cub was swatting at him and chewing on his tail. Also, the courage that Tao had to save his friend by attacking the cub and standing up to the mother bear. The three main characters are Luath; a young lab, Tao; the Siamese cat and Bodger; an old Bull Terrier. I have three pets of my own that remind me of the pets in the story. My dog Ken is an old lab that has a hard time keeping up with my other dog Tessa, who wants to jump on everyone and is always happy and friendly. We also have a cat that is always chasing off other cats and dogs out of our yard. She is very brave like Tao. I think the author did a great job giving the pets in the story real personalities. It helped me think about my own animals while I read the book and was able to think about my pets being in the different situations trying to get home.

The last book I read was “Wild Life” by Cynthia DeFelice this summer and there are a few similarities between the two books. They both are adventure genre and deal with surviving the wilderness. The “Wild Life” was a boy running away from his home with a dog and “The Incredible Journey” were pets trying to find their way home. I did not really like this book at first because it took to long to get into the adventure and the book was confusing to me at first. I was glad that I finished reading it because the end was really good when all the pets survived the journey and made it safe back to their family. I was really happy that Bodger made it back to Peter because their relationship reminds me of me and my old dog, Ken. I would recommend this book to another student because it had a lot of adventure and if you have pets it will make you think about how much you love your pet and they love you. I give this book a “Thumbs up” because most people have pets and can understand that connection between an owner and their pet.
