-------- Weigh the poetential scientific data that could be collected about extraterrestrial life and space against the environmental and residencial impact that this contruction had on the Chinese people and environment. Do you think that the possible scientific findings from space are more important than the state of living of the people on earth and our environment? Note the number of people displaced and the size of land cleared for this project.

To create this massive satellite 8000 people in a 3 mile radius were displaced to create this 500 meter telescope. The telescope took $180 million to build. The money and efforts could have been used in a more practical way for the people of that area. $180 million can go a long way in helping people in general with food, cloth, etc. Displacing 8000 people is a massive thing to do. Unless the people agreed to it its really hard to justify doing it. There are all kinds of problems like poverty and hunger on our planet. Its important for us to advance as a race and explore the universe we live in, but we should worry about our planet first. We generally need to get our planet together before exploring others and that money and especially effort could've gone positively to the human race instead of displacing thousands of people.

While there will be a great increase in scientific findings and knowledge, I think we need to take into consideration the Chinese people themselves and their environment. $180 million was put towards this radio telescope and 8,000 people were displaced from their homes. This is where I start to question this project and it's worth. I think the money put forth will be worth it in discovering extraterrestrial life and space in general, but was displacing 8,000 Chinese citizens from there home worth it or even fair? This is where I'm not convinced. If the leaders of this project took into consideration the citizens and came up with a soulution for their homes then I would agree more with the project as a whole.

The displacement of 8,000 citizens of China is horrible, and I don't think it was right for them to kick these people out of their land. Even though there may be a potential scientific upside to the radio telescope, the people are the priority. If it was possible, they could've tried to build the telescope somewhere else where there were less people. The possible findings in space are very intriguing and exciting, but the safety, rights, and well-being of the people living in China matter the most. The scientists that built this telescope and for scientists building future projects need to recognize how they are affecting the communities they are building in.

While I think that the displacement of 8,000 Chinese citizens is horrible, the benefits of the telescope can outweigh the cost. China is a communistic nation, so the people of China must work for their government, according to the laws of their nation. With that being said, a telescope of this size is extraordinary. Being able to possibly discover signs of extraterrestrial life is something many thought could never be done.

One of the most pressing issues in modern culture is a sense of knowledge. The world wants to know more, the world wants to see more. Having said that, the gross displacement of 8,000 people is an expensive cost for a measly 500meter radio telescope. Whatever the benefits may be the disruption on common life is unnecessary. The benefits of this particular creation costed 180 million dollars and over 3 miles of land. This project has a more long term underlying cause, the probability of an imminent issue from a pulsar is very unlikely. Therefore I find this entire project to be a waste of time, money, and ruined the lives of a several thousands of families across that country.

It is very exciting to know that scientists are coming closer to finding other forms of life in different galaxies and planets. It is more important to focus on the life that we do know about on Earth and how we can keep the environment clean and safe. The lives of the people from Xinhua didn't seem to be considered during this project and that's sad to hear. Scientists are getting a little too caught up in their work and need to realize the impact of what they're doing. While finding extraterrestrial life is very exciting, I believe that whatever they find doesn't match the amount of people that had to evacuate their homes.

I like the idea that the Chinese people are making advances in the field of extraterrestrial research. I think that it is great that this field of science is expanding and getting bigger and better equipment to help in the studying of the extraterrestrial. However, I do not think that the possibility of finding such things is greater than having to relocate 8000 people because it is just that, a possibility. Also the cost of building the telescope was 180 million dollars. That money could have been used to increase the quality of life for the Chinese people. In order for the telescope to be built 8000 people within a 3 mile radius had to be relocated as to not interupt the radio signals. That, to me, does not equate.

The fact that they, the Chinese, are doing scientific research on extraterrestrial life is amazing, but the relocation of over 8000 Chinese citizens amd clearing all that land is not worth the cost. I think that it ks wrong for them to do that to such a large sum of people. But on the flip side I believe finding information on extraterrestrial life is necessary and by using this large telescope is such a help to the cause. Myself personally believes our world, our galaxy, is way to big and that there must be other life forms, amd this radio telescope will help us do just that, and help the nation, China, as a finicial country. This telescope, if it found life forms, could change the lives of the Chinese for the better good.

think it is important to preform research concerning the possibility of extraterrestrial life, but not at the cost of the homes of 8000 Chinese citizens. In my opinion a country should put it's people first over anything else especially when this research focuses on alien life. My biggest problem with this was the Chinese were already doing this kind of research just outside of the country. They clearly didn't like that so since everything in life is a competition the Chinese not only wanted a place to porform research in their country but to make sure it was the biggest, most impressive telescope in the world. That why they could not only show off the structure to the world but also collect data that could make them famouse. Just imagine if you were the country that proved once and for all aliens exist. Obviously this new race and desire to have the biggest stuff is more important to China then those 8000 citizens and where there going to live. That is a problem.

I think that possible scientific findings from space is more important than the state of living of the people of earth. The reason being is the space exploration can help advance way we live and improve our way of life or like in the article have a negative affect on society. Where 8000 citezens of China were moved away from their homes in the building the radio telescope. The First reason that space advances outways the negatives in f want happens in the article is it helps locate possible natural resources. With anto over population, we are burning through the earth’s natural resources pretty quickly. In space there unlimited opportunities to gather natural resources. Soon there would no excuse to jack up prices for natural resources like oil. Another reason is it gives us a personal perspective on live. If explore space it will show how fragile we are at home/earth and maybe it will help us treat the planet with more care. In end the building of the largest telescope in the world is has its negatives but can further improve our way of living.

I think it is ridiculous that they displaced 8,000 people and set a three mile radius to do this project that has no benefit to human life whatsoever. The people in China have a right to remain in their own homes that they own. If the government bought that land back from the the people than maybe I would be okay with this project. The possible scientific findings from space are no where near as important of the well being and state of living of the people on earth and our environment. Also, I feel as though, before we go and try to explore and find extraterrestrial life and meddle in their life, we need to get our stuff together first because our lives should be our number one priority. Instead of spending $180 million dollars on a telescope we could put that money towards helping people in need.

Fixing problems on Earth outweighs the possible results of this research. The money used on the telescope, $180 million, could have been used for a project that could benefit the people of China. China has significant problems when it comes to pollution, and if the money used for this project was granted for scientific purposes, they could have possibly used the money to create a solution to their pollution problem. I also find it wrong that the Chinese government found it acceptable to displace 8,000 people for this project.
