They also state there is no smoke of civilization or boats, highlighting how alone they are. However, the boys seem I phased by this, and see the island as a blessing. There is plentiful food, good weather and no dangers. Golding makes the island seem alive, with the recurring soft pinks, and saying it was "scarred" by the downed plane. He says that his aunt owns a sweet shop and he used to get whatever sweets he wanted. Sweets and kids are most accommodated as we have seen kids beg their parents to buy them the sweet of their choice. This shows innocence as happiness and the emotions of the child are portrayed when receiving the sweet.
