Transformational learning is both a personal attitude to cultural awareness and a powerful factor of social change when the individual makes a wilful act about affecting others, by positive contagion or positive policies.
How about the emotional impact on the pretransformation identity, be it individual or social? It is an epiphany, a moment of intensity that can be shocking, painful or extremely exciting as it marks a new birth. The pattern of the identity changes as the pawns move and the game result is no longer predictable... people's attitudes, nations, arts and crafts....no longer fixed within national borders, or canons or must be....but open, flexible, and friendly. In one word.....Human!

My reflection of today is that the learning environment is very important, often our classrooms are units closed within 4 walls with windows on one side only and a door that is almost always closed with the students in front of the teacher. This setting closes also the thoughts which must be free. On the contrary an open space with a door open to the world ;)) can encourage creativity and divergent thinking.

In particular about personal identity being the core of the national identity. Which makes a national identity possible subject of a change.

As school offers knowledge within it's walls, learning through experience is very much a family matter. What about families with less means, motivation, knowledge and time? They simply derive their children from opportunities to learn touching things, experimenting, doing sports and activities.
Let's return to schools then. Is there time and space to organise hands on experiences? In higher classes less and less (still I believe pupils should be in labs more time and making guided observations, forming, rejecting and accepting hypotheses too).
As it was pointed out, change, many times, not always, IMHO, comes also from our actions. So, us should take the initiative to organise really meaningful, viable, lasting in time projects. Ask us today about our experiences with Apostolos in the special elementary school in a juvenile prison and our current special elementary school. I think you might find them interesting.

From our meeting yesterday I gained the certainty that knowledge can come from everywhere. Especially in special education, knowledge must come mainly from events outside the classroom. People with disabilities should get to know the world and to join it and they should be helped in their attempt to know it. The formal class is nowadays over. Everything around us generates knowledge and experiences. We must offer them to the children. With organization, knowledge, certainty and trust in our science.
