Is Flipped Learning Really that Effective? You Might Be Surprised

Source: Popular
Abstract: Flipped instruction has become a positive influence in the classroom. There were surveys given to some students on how they feel about flipped instruction. Administrators and teachers across the district were also surveyed about flipped instruction in the classroom. Secondary Math and science were the most popular for flipped instruction. Over 180,000 middle and high schoolers were surveyed about using flipped instruction in the classroom.

Findings:
After surveys were reviewed for the students the article states that "flipped learning can be a valuable and innovative instructional strategy." The group of teachers and administrators stated that flipped instruction blew out the other instructional trends. Almost 3/4 of the middle and high schoolers voiced that they would benefit more from teachers using flipped instruction in the classroom.
APA Citation:Guymon, D.

Flipped classrooms' may not have any impact on learning

Source: Popular
Abstract: Flipped instruction has been a positive talk, but not among these 4 professors. The four professors at Harvey Mudd College think that Flipped instructions doesn’t show much impact on learning. They started a pilot for flipped instruction in 2012-2013. Each professor taught two sessions one with flipped instruction and one without. Some students were asked anonymously if they loved or hated flipped instruction.

Findings:
During the pilot they found the results to not be3 very reliable or worthy. After the study had been completed the professors didn’t notice a measurable change in the two classes. This was based off different aspects such as students ability to use their knowledge to solve a problem, their attitudes about learning and if they could show learning on their exams. Some of the anonymous students stated that flipped instruction was more work because of the extra time needed to watch the video.
APA Citation:Atteberry, E. (2013, December 05). Some say it is a disruption to education. A new model is being mad that includes active lectures and video feedback rather than video lectures.
Findings: In this model class time is being used to give students individualized learning for the most part. This flipped instruction included more than just a video it included face to face interaction. The mixture of direct instruction and constructivism makes it easier for students who may be out sick or missed school for other reasons. It’s also said that watching these flipped videos at home can free up class time to ask and answer questions that may cause confusion.
Findings: Some findings have shown that flipped instruction has truly individualized instruction. However, a lot of urban and rural teachers believe that it will not reach their kids because of their circumstances. It is said that teachers should use flipped instruction because it causes teachers to think of different ways to reach their kids.kids becasue of their circumstances.
