Rowlatt Act was passed in 1919. It gave the government authotority to arrest individuals without trial. There were multiple protests against it as it was seen as an infringement of civil rights. The Rowlatt Satyagraha was led by Gandhi Ji.

The Non-Cooperation movement 1920 was a nonviolent way of opposing british rule and it was again led by Mahatma Gandhi. It was launched to protest against the cruelties commited to people in the Jalyawhala Bhag incident ( 1919 ).
