The age it was formed was
called the Carboniferous Period. It gets its name from carbon, the basic
element in coal and other fossil fuels. It occurred about 360 to 286 million
years ago. As trees and plants died they sank to the bottom of the swamps of
oceans. The formed peat. A spongy material. Over years the peat was covered by
sand and clay and other minerals which turned into a rock called sedimentary. They
piled and piled which added more and more weight. It pressed down on the peat.
It was squeezed until the water was drained out of it , which turned into oil ,
natural gas , and coal.

Only 71% of oil is being used today for transportation
