Meeting the needs of society

Citizens can contribute towards the good of society in many ways. Citizens can influence government policies by providing feedback through platforms such as online and offline communication channels. Citizens can also improve outcomes in society by addressing the needs of their fellow citizens or by responding to issues and challenges that they care about. (Good!) --> for Influencing Govt Decisions (Grp 1)

Individuals play an important role in contributing to the needs of society through volunteering their time, effort and money towards meaningful social causes. For example, citizens who are unhappy with littering, started a campaign called “A litter at a Time” by Ms Elisa Ng OR Dr Joshua Lam volunteers at a subsidised clinic for migrant workers --> to encourage people to pick up a piece of litter Everyday. --> if everyone plays their part, they can make a difference in the environment and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Conducting regular patrol in densely populated areas such as Changi Airport so as to safeguard the security in the Airport and the people from any external threats
2 Eg. The SAF would station recruits to protect key bases from any intruders, this is to make sure that if trouble were to occur, the Singapore army is able to defend the bases. (Clear examples! choose one to memorize) This is because the bases are essential for defending Singapore so if the bases are not protected, intruders could just enter and cause damage to the base. --> Singapore is safe from external threats + economy not disrupted
