Parts, Purposes, Complexities. I made and remade this assignment as I considered how all of students would cope with the language and concepts. How could I develop a task that would be inclusive for ESL students and still challenge my regular english speakers.

Writing in Art Class

Elementary school students love to talk about their own art. As art teachers, sometimes we don’t have time to let students write during art classes. My students love to write about their art projects during their creative writing with their classroom teachers. In the past, art students have created Graphic Novels. They’ve done their artwork during art classes and their writing with their classroom teachers. You’ll be amazed at how many classrooms teachers are willing to collaborate with us on similar activities. Also, providing students with opportunities to reflect in their art is very important as it will help them with their planning processes. This year I plan to provide my students with a variety of opportunities to reflect and write about their work. Thank you for the wonderful ideas!
