         <description><![CDATA[<p>. Joined the national bank at the age of 16</p><p>. Active member of the militia and served in the 13th Light House Regiment and the 8th Infantry Regiment</p><p>. Enlisted as a trumpeter in the 1st AIF</p><p>. Promoted to sergeant March 1916</p><p>. Promoted to the rank of 2nd Liutenant 9 September 1916</p><p>. Earned the Victoria Cross on 12 May 1917</p><p>. When second world war broke out he was a member of the Volunteer Defence Corps and by 1943 was an Assistance Staff Captain  </p><p>. Reserve was named after him in Bacchus Marsh</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Albert was born on the 2nd of August 1896 in Myrtleford Victoria, He decided to enlist on july 16th 1915. He joined his Unit in January after its return from Gallipoli. </p><p>In late August Albert was injured during a fight for Mouquet Farm which cost his Battalion greatly.</p><p>While Lowerson was recovering he was Recommended for a military medal.</p><p>Throughout his lifetime he was recommended for many medals for his outstanding work in WW1.</p><p>Albert David Lowerson died the 15th of December 1945 in his birth town of Myrtleford.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Percy jerry was born the 4th of June 1895 in Drysdale Victoria and died on the 26th of march 1917 in Lagnicourt France, he died at 4:30 in the afternoon by a fire. As an 18 year old he was commissioned in the infantry regiment but when war was declared he was too young for overseas service.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Rober Cuthbert Grieve (born 1889 in Brighton, Vic). He served in the Victorian Rangers during 1915, then enlisted in the Victorian 37th Battalion, AIF in Feburary 1916. On the 3rd of June, the 37th set sail for Europe. They Arrived in England late July and began training. </p><ul><li><p>In late November 1916 he was deployed to the trenches near Armentieres. </p></li><li><p>He spent much of the winter of 1916-17 seconded to the Light Trench Mortar Battery</p></li><li><p>In April 1917, he rejoined the 37th and became captain</p></li><li><p>Was in the battle of Messines</p></li><li><p>In the battle of Messines, he located 2 hostile machine guns that were holding up his advance</p></li><li><p>Evacuated to England where he received his Victoria cross from from King George V at Buckingham Palace.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>BORN- 7 AUGUST 1881</p><p>PLACE OF BIRTH- BORUNG, VIC</p><p>DEATH- 7 FEBRUARY 1968</p><p>PLACE OF DEATH- ALBURY, NSW</p><p><br/></p><p>Oldest Australian to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the great war. </p><p>He served 18 months at Victorian Rangers before moving to Melbourne where he joined the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Board. He enlisted on 15th of march 1915, joining the 26th Infantry Battalion as a private. He served with his unit in Gallipoli, from september to november 1915 before being evacuated. He went to southern france and then got shot in the arm. After recovering, he was promoted to sergeant. Two months later, he received the Military Medal for bravery. He was then sent to england for officer training. After coming home he married Elsie Jane Love in 1928. He settled in Albury NSW, where he had four sons and later died. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Issy smith was originally from Russia and migrated to France. He earned the Victoria Cross in Ypres. He carried many wounded men for over 250, the whole time exposed to heavy mahcine gun and rifle fire. He was seriously injured and sent to the UK to recover. When he recovered, he returned and stayed for the rest of the war. He returned to London and married, then </p><p>moved to Melbourne. He died at 52. </p>]]></description>
