Today is the first day of my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang (HSM). Today i was introduced and guided by Miss Atikah who is the HR manager and assisted by an internship student who guided me all the way to show the departments and introduced me to the staffs of Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. I also meet the Manager of HSM Penang, Mr Santhanam and he gave some motivational advice to me. On the first day, I work with my new colleague who guide me to do housekeeping. I learn on how to clean the hotel room precisely and more detailed. The working hour is from 9am-5pm and I have to punch card to record the attendance. Staff meal is provided during lunch hours at 12pm. Overall today was fun and it was a new environment for me. Today is the second day of my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia. For this day, I was given the task for cleaning the room. I was assisted by a senior in housekeeping department. He helped me in bed making and I did the cleaning of toilet and room. It was quite a tiring task since need to do housekeeping for the whole floor. I did enjoy the task since I do have a partner to help me. Besides that, the staffs in Hotel Seri Malaysia are very friendly since all department staffs do interact and greet each other. Today is the third day of my internship at Hostel Seri Malaysia Penang. Around 9am the staffs and supervisor of housekeeping department did a small meeting to divide task and gave a small briefing. So for today i have been given the duty to work with a senior worker Mr Emran. Mr Emran guide me to do the work and helped me to clean the room. We start from room 114 since it is the nearest to the store room and we need to clean the room and toilet as a part of housekeeping duty. Gaining experience is a good for a better development in the future. There are many types of housekeeping such as OD, VC, X, VD, and OOO. These are divided in where some rooms will have guest in it, some have check out, and some are under maintenance. Today is my fifth day I am doing my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. As usual, a briefing regarding housekeeping done by Mr Jasni who is the head of housekeeping. For today, around 100 rooms have been booked n about 90 above check out. Today is the most tiring day since a group of two person need to clean more than 20 rooms. We did our best to complete the task and manage to settle it around 5.30pm. This shows that weekend is the peak day in Hotel Industry. Today myself and Mr Emran did the housekeeping duty as a team and finally we have done housekeeping for 24 rooms. For today, since it is Sunday the schedule will be changed so that the person who do housekeeping on the left block will be changed to the right block. Today is my nineth day I am doing my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. Today Mrs Norhayati who is the supervisor for Housekeeping department gave a briefing regarding the duty need to be done. For today myself and Zafry did our duty at the second and third floor and mostly today is OD which means there will be guest inside the room and we need to do some housekeeping such as changing the towels, floor mats, shampoo, soap and tissues. We also need to add coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and mineral  water if there is insufficient of quantity. Today is quite hectic day as usual and I do help one of my colleague which is Kak Fazilah. Today is my tenth day of my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. For today Mrs Norhayati the supervisor of housekeeping department gave a briefing as usual and today the staff is less than usual. So myself and Mr Yusnizal did the housekeeping for two floors which is level 2 and 3. The most tiring since both of us are new to this work. Mr Yusnizal is currently a trainee and he also have less experience in housekeeping. But we did our best by sharing our opinions on how to complete our task and we help each other to ensure we can finish the task. Around 28 rooms to be completed and we did it. Around 3pm my housekeeping senior Mr Abadi did come and help us. So this ensure us to be more easier to complete my task. We did all and finish it around 5pm. The eleventh day of internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang is the same for me today. I did as usual the housekeeping with new colleague which is Alif who is similar age with me. We did 20 rooms and finished earlier today. Then we helped Mr Emran to settle another 9 rooms today since Mrs Norhayati did ask us to help since he is doing alone and needs help. Today morning I had a briefing with the head of housekeeping department Mr Jasni. He share about the air-conditioner and mistakes done during housekeeping which should be aware by the staffs. Then I did housekeeping with Mr Yusnizal and he came late for work today so I did one room alone and it's not so easy to do housekeeping alone. Mrs Norhayati do teach us on how to do bed making since myself and Mr Yusnizal is new to the work. We finished around 3.30pm and I did help Mr Emran to complete around 8-9 rooms with the help of Mrs Fazilah. We did complete all the rooms around 5.30pm and went back to home. A briefing was done as usual by Mr Jasni and today Mr Abadi is in charge replacing Mrs Norhayati. For today the left block and the whole first floor was done by myself and Mrs Ros. Mrs Ros is a part time worker and she will come every weekend to help the housekeeping department. We did around 26 rooms and day by day I have been working with new colleague. This is a good experience for me and I can gain more colleagues as friends. Saturday has more than 86% of rooms occupied. Which is a high number as it is weekend. For today many guest reuquest for housekeeping since the guest stay more than one day. There is a guest who ask information regarding where to go for leisure activity and share about himself. Today itself already 2 weeks I am doing my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. For today I have been working along with Mrs Fazilah. She is quite helpful for me since she did help me similar with other colleagues. For today, Mr Jasni focused on amenities. This is because some guest are requesting for amenities such as shampoo, soap, towel, floor mat, tea, coffee, sugar, tea and even laundry bag. As usual we had a briefing with Mrs Norhayati. For today the number of guest if about 39.86% which is fewer than usual. For today myself and Mrs Zuraini will be a group to do the daily routine. But since the number is low. I did alone at the third floor in which there is suite room which is occupied by the manager of Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. Mr Jasni gave a briefing regarding the housekeeping and today it's just 5 of us in housekeeping department to work. So each floor need to divide with one person and since there is a 2-3 rooms in a floor so I have been given the task to do two floors alone and there is about 9 rooms. I did it and finished around 2.30PM and then I went to help Mr Hanif who is a new housekeeping staff since they change him from PA to housekeeping. We did together and completed about 5-6 rooms by 4pm. For today Mr Jasni gave a briefing to all the housekeeping staffs regarding the complaints made by customers regarding housekeeping service. So far it is less since the common mistake is less towel provided. We did check all the rooms today to ensure all the amenities are complete and refill if there is insufficient of quantity. I did check all the rooms even the rooms are Vacant Clean. This to ensure there will be no complaints in the future. Today is a tiring day since I need to check and clean the rooms in 3rd floor of both left and right block. A morning briefing regarding the feedback on improvement of Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang was done by Mr Jasni. Friday is the most hectic day since the number of guest is the most compare to other days. Today the number of staff is quite high which is 10 so each floor will have 2 staff working and another 2 floor will be one person and the number of room occupied guest and check out guest will be less than 15 since they are working alone. In the morning, Mrs Norhayati gave a briefing and told that the occupancy number of guest for today is 84%. This is quite high since it is weekend. Today myself and Mrs Fazilah did as a team and we managed to complete the housekeeping of 21 rooms by 3.30pm with the help of another practical student Danial who did help for 1 hour from 2.30-3.30pm. Almost 3 weeks today as an internship student at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. I get to learn most of the housekeeping work and how to manage the time. For today I helped Zafri about 23 rooms and manged to finish by 2.30pm and then the supervisor of housekeeping department Mrs Norhayati asked me to help Mr Hanif who is also my colleague along with Zafri. The number of guest occupied is 94.20%. Housekeeping at third floor consist of 10 rooms and mostly is family room which is quite big and the work is more compare to twin and single room. After the off day today I do start my internship and this time I team up with Mr Hanif to do housekeeping for about 21 rooms including Occupied Dirty, Vacant Dirty and check out rooms. Most of the rooms are dirty especially the toilet in which the stains assure the side wall to become yellowish. So today I did wash the toilet floor as usual and I did extra washing by adding Clorox to remove the yellowish stain. So each person need to do each floor but the number of guest is low today so the task is not difficult or challenging compare to other peak days. The occupancy for today at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang is 40%. For today myself and Zafri did as a team to do housekeeping for about 18 rooms in the first floor and another 2 rooms at the third floor. We both did together as a team by helping each other and manage to complete all the rooms. The majority guest did check out compare to guest who check in. The total occupancy of guest is around 40-50% today and the number of check out guest is the most. It is a tiring day since need to clean the whole room of guest who check out. Guest have made little request regarding they need extra towel and pillow. I do help to give them and at the same time need to manage to settle the 21 rooms in the first floor of the left block which is usually occupied fully by the guest on Friday. A briefing regarding the presentation made by Mr Jasni on the number of rooms cleaned by the staffs on the month of February. This shoes that more than 2000 toilets have been cleaned by the housekeeping staffs on the month of February itself. Once the briefing finished, since we have 6 staffs today so each staff need to do housekeeping for one floor. I got the third floor with 10 rooms need to complete the housekeeping. Today the number of occupancy is 90%. The main part is that majority check out. Since the number of staff is just 6 of us. Each person need to do housekeeping for each floor. I got the third floor and imagine doing whole 19 rooms which includes suite room, family room, single twin and single queen. Myself doing alone for around 18 rooms since only one rooms is Vacant Clean. It was so tiring that I was doing alone and took just 20 minutes of break during lunch break and continue my work until 5.30pm. It has been one one month I am doing my internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. For today the staff is just 4 of us. Two person need to cover 2 floor and another 2 person need to cover one floor but which has more guest. For myself I did the second n third floor. I learn on how to manage the time to arrange and refill amenities when it is finished. It took some time since need to cover two floors. While I am doing the bed making, Mrs Norhayati came n teach me on how to do bed making for single bed and queen size bed. The number of staff is just 4 for today. So as previous day 2 person to get one whole floor with more rooms to do housekeeping and another 2 person gets 2 floor with less occupancy of guest. My self I did the same second n third floor today with 11 rooms occupied today combining both floors. I manage to complete 8 occupied room by 12.30pm before I take my lunch. The huge task for me since I need to cover both floors with 19 rooms need to be kept clean since mostly are reserved for 3pm check in guest. Myself alone did 15 rooms alone and mostly is family room and single twin bed rooms. It is a hectic day for me since I need to clean the toilet and set up amenities before proceeding to bed making and cleaning the room. It took about 20-30 minutes to complete one room and if the room is very dirty then it will take around 40 minutes. For today the shampoo and soap is mostly need to be fill up since mostly finish. A morning briefing as usual by Mr Jasni regarding the groups who are coming to accommodate at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang and duty are divided to every staff. Supposed today is my off day but since the number of staff is very low and many guest occupied at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang since it is school holiday. My HOD Mr Jasni changed my off day to Tuesday for this week. Since it is school holiday the number of guest check in and check out is at high number. For today the occupancy is at 70%. I need to do housekeeping for about 18 rooms at the first floor of the right block. When entering the family room to do housekeeping is the most tiring and to be the most dirty room since there will be pampers, stains, food and rubbish on the floor. This helps the lack of manpower at housekeeping department and we can manage to do housekeeping at each floor with the help of each other. The school holiday ends today and the number of occupancy which is 80% in Hotel Seri Malaysia did check out. Obviously the day will be tiring and there will be no rest for all the housekeeping staff since each floor will be around 20 above rooms to be completed the housekeeping duty. The end of weekend which is Sunday shows that the guest will check out and it will be the most hectic day to clean the whole room. For today myself get 23 rooms in which 22 check out room and 1 occupied room. Compare to others my task is the most difficult since it is compulsory to do housekeeping for 22 rooms. I manage to do alone and start from room 228 until 248. The whole room at the 3rd floor have been done by myself and I did manage to complete by 5.15pm. After return from off day yesterday, today I was given the same third floor at the right block. Since it is weekday, the number of guest is quite low and I get around 13 rooms in which 10 consist of Vacant Dirty and 3 Check out rooms. Today since the total number is 13 so it is not so tired and I did manage to complete my task by 3.30pm. I did went to the pantry to take extra shampoo, towel and tissue box. Each staff need to do one floor so myself I did the third floor of the left block in where I did housekeeping for the suite room, family room and Single Queen room. Today is my first day joining Food and Beverage department. I have been introduced to the supervisor of F&B and the person in charge did teach me on how to set up the table, cleaning the table and floor and also cleaning the utensils properly. For today in the morning there is many guest who came for breakfast and there were around 50 above guest from Nepal who came and enjoy their meal. They did ask me regarding vegetarian food since they are pure vegetarian. I did show to them which food is vegetarian and non vegetarian so that they can eat without any hesitation. Today is Friday so I went for morning shift even though I supposed to come for evening shift since there will be solat jumaat and I need to cover the male staff in Food and beverage department at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. The number of guest in the morning is very high and was so pack since there is extra demand from customers asking for sugar, pepper, half boiled eggs and utensils. Every Friday in the afternoon there will be buffet and the number of pax is around 30-40 today. It was tiring since just two of the staff including me did the work. Since it is weekend, the day will be more hectic than usual. In the morning around 7.30am the number of customers who come for breakfast is more than 100. There is customer from Nepal, Ghana, Uganda who come and they usually go for healthy breakfast since I did serve them for around one week. They tend to choose cereal such as koko krunch and corn flakes. Besides that the demand for bread and vegetarian food is high for this one week. After done with breakfast, around 10.30am there is group from MBPP who have their breakfast and then around 12pm there is VIP from Pusat Seni Silat Gayong who have their lunch and I did serve them which is around 10 pax. Lastly around 12.30pm the same MBPP group did have their lunch which is buffet. My work remains morning shift until Monday before they change the shift to evening for the whole May month because of Ramadhan starts next month. In the morning the number of guest is still many since it is weekend. Today is the last day for the Nepal, Ghana and Uganda guest after they have spent their one week programme at Penang. Today is Monday in where the day will be smooth for the staff in Food and beverage since many guest have check out on Sunday and the number of guest for today breakfast is not more than 50 guest. Today morning there is some guest who ask for additional of soup, egg and fruits since those food will finish due to high demand especially from the foreigners. Once settle with the breakfast, I did mop the floor and took around 30 minutes to complete both sides. My colleague Ku Muzzaini did help me to arrange the plates and utensils. Around 12pm another colleague did came to help us. So I can take turn to have my lunch since there is 2 person in charge of the cafe. There is a guest who came and order food to dine in for lunch and another guest who order and I did send the food to their room. Today my shift is changed to evening in where for this whole month will remain the same since Ramadan will be begin on the 5th of May. The number of guest for today is average since it is weekday. Today is another tiring day for me since there is a group around 7-10pm which is from IPG Penang. Those group did have farewell party and I alone did the cleaning and did serve those guest when they need help. Besides that, I did also serve the guest who came in the evening for buffet by serving extra soup, drinks and clear the plates. Today I supposed to work at 3pm but due to only male Malay staffs are working in Food and beverage department, so I was asked to come earlier around 1pm to help and handle the Cafe Bayan Baru for about 2 hours. I did manage to handle and receive more than 6 orders for food and drinks in where guest take away, dine in and also room service included. It ensures me to be panic since I did handle alone and I am not that good in creating and printing the bills. But luckily my colleague did came and help me by 2.30pm. Around 4.30pm I did arrange the plates and utensils for tomorrow breakfast setup. For today it is weekend and one day before Ramadan starts so the day will be busy for preparation of tomorrow. Today is the first day of puasa and the number of guest for morning breakfast is not more than 20 at 7am-10.30am and for sahur there is not more than 20 guest too. Besides that, I helped my senior since she is fasting by managing to handle the guest once they finished their breakfast to clear the plates and glass. Around 11am, I did set up the table by wiping the table with cleanser and place tissue, fork and spoon. Once done with it, I did sweep the floor around 11.30am and mop the floor since the floor is quite dirty with footsteps and food stains. Everything was completed by 1am. Today is the third day of Ramadan and the day was so busy since decorations and stalls were setup outside and inside of the Cafe Bayan Baru. Today I went to work at 3pm and once I enter the work I did help to set up the table since as usual there will be Ramadan Buffet in the night which starts at 7pm. Around 4pm, our Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang new Food and beverage Executive did join on duty and my supervisor Mr Zaif did introduce him to all the staff in food and beverage department. There was a small briefing between F&B staff with our new executive. He did introduce himself and taught us on discipline, attire and teamwork that we should apply in F&B department. Today I changed my shift to morning since I have an important function tonight. So I went to work at 7am and did work with my colleague Daniey and my senior Mrs Masitah. Mostly are teleperformance which is from foreign countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and other related countries. Today the number of occupancy is high in where there is 109 guest who comes for Ramadan Buffet. Inside the cafe is full house and the outside both left and right area is booked. The tent outside of the Cafe consist of 7 tables and 4 of it have been booked. Today my F&B Executive Mr Bahtiar did ask me on what the staff will do in the evening since he is new to the work. I told the work that we will do such as arranging the plates and cups in and out of the Cafe, clean the cafe and do three types of drinks for Ramadan Buffet and also set up the tables based on how many pax are coming on the day. Mr Bahtiar did help us to clean and decorate the Cafe. I feel good since everyone is doing work with a teamwork spirit. Today the number of pax is around 100. Myself and another 4 colleague are there to do our duty and help each other. The chef ask me to taste some food since he is fasting and I did taste and give feedback on the taste of desserts. Today the number of occupancy is more than 200 pax. Luckily the number of staff are quite higher than yesterday which is 8 of us. Today it have been 4 days directly in which the number of pax is more than 200. Today is the most highest number of occupancy in Ramadan Buffet at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. The demand for glass and plates is high as usual and for backup F&B department did use plastic cups to replace used glass and same goes for plates in which have been replaced with plastic plates. Luckily the number of staff increases to 10 workers today. There is two new staff who joined for part time. Once settle with the event, we all did cleaning and clearing. For this week my shift is changed to morning since there is just one staff and I am supporting the staff. I joined the work at 7am and found there is no name tags for the foods and drinks. Then I did went to the counter and find the food tags and place them at the right place. Following with that I found the holder to heat the food and drinks is not filled with the chemical, then I took all of it and replace with  new chemical so that it will took a long time to burn and produce enough heat for guest to serve their meal. After evening shift yesterday today I have been asked to change to morning shift since there is not enough staff to work in the morning. I did ensure to reach by 7am and help by preparing drinks and clearing the dishes. Today I change my shift to morning since there is just one staff working in the morning. I did help my colleague to clear the plates, rearrange the chair position, ensure the centre of the table covered with creamer and sugar, salt and small plastic plant. It is a very meaningful day for me since my F&B executive Mr Bahtiar did advice and give some tips on how to be more passionate in hospitality industry and the proper ways to greet and treat the guests. He taught me on how to begin the procedure by greet and welcoming the guest, show the seat table, take the order, send the food or drinks to the guest, ask for a feedback regarding the food and drinks. Today I help to wipe the utensils, clear the dishes and prepare Nescafe for guests since the coffee is out of stock and reaches late which is after breakfast. Luckily there is Nescafe and the guest appreciate since myself and my executive did prepare and serve to the guest about 3 of them. After serve the guest, I did inform the sales department regarding the coffee stock and the person in charge Mr Charles did manage to get two packet of coffee for us and told the order will reach by evening. At lunch I did take order and serve 3 Teh Tarik for room service and the guest did appreciate for the fast service and communicate with me regarding my practical and the educational place I studied. Unfortunately I can't manage to go work today since I am having high fever and the doctor gave Medical Certificate (MC) and said I need to take rest. DAY 106
Today is my last day of internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. Since today is my last day, my shift is changed to morning since I can communicate and get information regarding the last day procedure of internship. As usual at 7am I did arrange the food tags and ensure the cleanliness of the Cafe Bayan Baru. I did wipe the tables at inside and outside of the Cafe and sweep the floor since there is no guest in the morning until 8.30am. Today I am the only one working until 9am in where my executive Mr Bahtiar did come and help me. Mr Bahtiar did encourage me and ask me to learn and gain more about hospitality industry since experience is the most important matter. Around 12pm my HR executive Miss Fatihah did come and give me two certificates regarding the completion and appreciation of internship at Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang. Once my internship ends at 3pm, I did went to all the departments and thank them for encouraging and supporting me for my 4 months of internship. The hotel manager of Hotel Seri Malaysia Penang which is Mr Santhanam did congratulate me for my hard work and successful of internship and told he need a hardworking worker for his hotel and ask me to come anytime for work. I did learn a lot about hospitality industry and gain more experience regarding work in housekeeping and F&B department.
