E - The rules ensure that road users, such as drivers and the and the pedestrians, have a safe environment. This would reduce the number of casualties on the road. However, there are many people who do not use the road safely. One of the few people who does not follow the rules are the drivers. Some of the drivers will go over the speed limit. Others would drink alcohol before driving and would become drunk. This is very dangerous as the drivers who are drunk have a high chance of passing out while driving. When they pass out, they might hit other road users such as the pedestrians and cause injuries. In more serious cases, there might even be people who die in the accident that the drunk drivers cause due to their irresponsibility. The traffic police are doing their best and informing the public that drink driving is dangerous. However, there are people who still do not understand the dangers of drink driving and continue to do what's wrong. The maximum penalties for drink-driving offences in Singapore: first offence: fine between $1000 and $5000 or jail up to six months, you will also lose driving privileges for 12 to 48 months. second offence: fine between $3000 and $10000 and imprisonment for up to 12 months.                                                          
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       P - There was one time around midnight when my family and I were walking home after watching the newest movie "Black Panther". As we were walking home, we noticed that there were many young adults who looked like they were drunk making their way home while waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green. Halfway across the road, I noticed some lights approaching my family and I. Suddenly, a car zoomed past. My brother who had been standing in front of me had nearly been knocked down by the car if not for my father who had pulled him away at the last second. I was grateful that my brother was still alive and had learnt the dangers of drink-driving from that day onwards.

On Thursday , Chinese national Zhang Long Xi, was jailed for 7months and banned from driving for 10 years after he pleaded guilty to causing the death of Malaysian food packer Cheng Yang Tee, through a rash act at a road junction in Jurong.

 Zhang, a vegetable packer, was driving his lorry along the driveway of Corporation Place building. At the non-signalised T-junction with Corporation Road, which is a left-turn-only road, Zhang made an illegal right turn.
At about the same time, around 6.25 am that day, Mr Cheng was riding his motorcycle along Corporation Road towards Jurong Port Road. He hit the back of Zhang's lorry before Zhang completed his illegal right turn across the two lanes of Corporation Road.

Mr Cheng fell onto the road unconscious. He was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he died two days later from multiple injuries.                                                                                                                     Josephine Pang
